Rich Johnson was one of the best wide receivers in Pace football history and left his mark all over the program record books. To this day, he still owns the Pace career records with 2,614 receiving yards and 188 receptions.
During the 1985 campaign, Johnson led the Setters as he teamed up with fellow Hall of Fame quarterback Kevin Enterlein for 39 receptions, catching a pair of touchdowns, and compiling 542 yards.
The following year saw the duo light it up again, this time with Johnson recording single season school records of 74 receptions and 1,143 yards, scoring four touchdowns. That year’s performance helped him earn Liberty Conference First Team Offense recognition, ECAC Division II All-Star honors, Football News Second Team All-American, and Pizza Hut First Team All-American.
Johnson went on to close out his career by eclipsing his single season reception mark by one, collecting a new record of 75 to go with his 929 yards and two more touchdowns. He also set a record with 20 receptions in a game against Fordham.
Johnson was recognized for his outstanding season by being named Liberty Conference Offensive Player of the Year, Liberty Conference First Team, an ECAC All-Star, and capped it off as a Football News First-Team All-American.
