Pace Men's Lacrosse 2020 Season Preview

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - Going into their seventh season under head coach Tom Mariano, the Pace University men's lacrosse team will kick off its 2020 campaign on Feb. 22, hosting Dominican College at Pace Stadium.

A Look Back At Last Year
The Setters went 13-4 in 2019, marking the program's most wins since the 1999 season and secured their second postseason victory in the last three years. Pace posted a 9-1 home record, including a first-round NE10 tournament win over fifth-seeded Bentley before ultimately falling in the next round to top-seeded Adelphi.

Preparing For the Present…
A roster of nine seniors and two graduate students bring a core of veteran leadership to the Setters in 2020. Amongst the notable senior returners are USILA All-America Honorable Mention and NE10 All-Conference First Team member, Daniel Lewis (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot), who anchored the defense in 2019, collecting 52 ground balls and causing a team-high 38 turnovers.

As Well as the Future
After losing 13 players to the 2019 graduating class, the Setters have brought in 14 freshmen to continue the development of a solid young core. The group of rookies join 13 sophomores that will look to continue their growth as players alongside the upperclassmen teammates.

Causing Chaos
The Setters were the No. 1 ranked team in the NE10 in causing turnovers last season with 206. Pace returns most of their defensive unit that was able to generate pressure on opposing ball handlers as Spencer DeRosa (Huntington Station, N.Y./Walt Whitman), Jake Richter (Kings Park, N.Y./West Islip) and Lewis each had 10 or more caused turnovers in 2019.

All-Conference Performers
In addition to Lewis, the Blue and Gold had three players named NE10 All-Conference last year that will be returning for the 2020 season. Patrick Mulcahy (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) was named to the third team while Jake Richter (Kings Park, N.Y./West Islip) and Louis Ragusa (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) earned spots on the All-Rookie team. Ragusa was also named NE10 Rookie of the Year after starting all 17 games in net a season ago, and posting 182 saves which ranked third in the conference.

Preseason Polls
The Setters were ranked No. 8 in the most recent USILA National Coaches Poll while being voted to finish third in the Northeast-10 Conference according to the preseason coaches' poll.
