PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – No. 5 Pace University Men's Lacrosse delivered a dominant performance on Senior Day, defeating RV Southern New Hampshire University, 17-10, on Saturday afternoon at Northwell Stadium. The Setters controlled the game from the opening faceoff and extended their winning streak to 10 games, matching the program record for best start through 11 games while improving to 10-1 overall and 5-0 in the Northeast 10 Conference (NE10).
The Blue and Gold jumped out quickly, scoring four of the first five goals to take a 4-1 lead midway through the opening quarter. After Southern New Hampshire responded to tie the game at 2-2, the Setters answered with a 4-0 run behind goals from
Zach Goetze,
Colin Reese,
Declan Landers, and
Cody McClean to take control at 6-2.
Southern New Hampshire added a late goal to close the gap to 6-3, but Pace maintained momentum into the second quarter. Goals from
Cole Stevens,
Lee Poulin, and
Matt Baldino pushed the lead to 9-3 before the Penmen trimmed the deficit to 9-5 at halftime.
The Setters opened the third quarter with another surge, scoring three goals in the first two minutes to extend the lead to 12-5. Reese and Baldino fueled the run, helping the Blue and Gold create separation and keep Southern New Hampshire at bay.
Southern New Hampshire responded with three straight goals to cut the deficit to 13-8, but Pace quickly halted the momentum. Reese added another goal late in the third to give the Setters a 14-8 lead entering the final quarter.
The Blue and Gold closed the game strong, outscoring the Penmen 3-2 in the fourth.
Will Danowski scored twice in the period, while Goetze added a man-up goal to seal the 17-10 victory.
Baldino, Goetze, and Reese each recorded three goals, while Goetze and Reese each added two assists to lead the offense. The Setters dominated possession throughout, outshooting Southern New Hampshire 62-27 and controlling the face-off battle, 22-8, while
Jack Kern made five saves in goal.
Next in store for the Blue and Gold is an away match-up versus the Falcons of Bentley University, set for next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
