PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – It was a strong showing in the pool for Pace women's swimming and diving Friday evening at the Goldstein Fitness Center. Celebrating senior day, the Setters defeated Vassar College in front of their home crowd, 147-123.
The Setters started the meet with
Paulina Pereira (13:00.14),
Ann Punnoose (13:54.03), and
Nataly Ramos-Jorqueda (13:58.03) taking second through fourth in the 1000-yard freestyle event.
Following the Blue and Gold's strong opening, the trio of
Eugenia Morossi (1:01.12),
Sage Evans (1:07.39), and
Alex Sullivan (1:10.66) gained significant points during the 100-yard backstroke.
The Setter's first top finish of the meet came from
Sophie Greko in the 100-yard breaststroke posting a time of 1:12.36
Aryana Twist earned a second-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:27.05
Katherine Kline took home second in the 50-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 25.84. The senior also posted a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with another season-best time of 55.87.
In the women's 200-yard backstroke, Morossi captured gold with a time of 2:11.10. The freshman also took home the victory in the women's 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:15.45. So far in 2024-25, the impressive rookie swimmer has yet to lose a backstroke race.
The lone Setter diver,
Caroline Ranno swept both boards posting a score of 229.35 in the 1-meter, and 201.75 in the 3-meter.
Towards the end of the meet, Greko hung on right at the end of the 500-yard Freestyle to secure the win for the Setters (5:21.64) out-touching the competition by two one-hundredths of a second.
To close out the night, the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Barbosa, Morossi, Greko, and
Jean Donlevy took first place with a time of 1:43.30.
Following their stellar performance in the pool, Pace women's swimming and diving moves to 7-2 overall on the season. With one final meet remaining in the 2024-25 regular season, the Setters turn their attention to Bentley University for a road meeting next Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
