PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – In recognition of exemplary 2021 campaigns, four student-athletes from the Pace University men's lacrosse team were voted to USILA All-Region Teams on Thursday.
Daniel Lewis (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot) was selected as the North Region's Defensive Player of the Year, while also being named to the All-Region First Team. Sophomore
Anthony Caputo (Westbury, N.Y./W.T Clarke) joined Lewis on the first team while
Alan Singleton (Pierrefonds, Quebec/Pierrefonds Comprehensive) earned third-team honors, and
Louis Ragusa (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) was tabbed honorable mention.
Lewis, who was also selected as a
first-team All-America by USA Lacrosse Magazine, put together a sensational 2021 campaign. The Long Island native ranked second in the country in caused turnovers (36), while also leading the Setters in ground balls with 37.
Lewis recorded at least one caused turnover in each game, including a career-high eight against top-ranked Le Moyne. Following the season opener, Lewis collected ground balls in each contest as well with a season-high seven against seventh-ranked Adelphi. He also recorded a pair of goals this season. Following his standout performance against the Dolphins, Lewis was selected to the USILA National Team of the Week.
Appearing in all 13 games, Caputo ranked third on the team with 31 points on 22 goals and nine assists. The Long Island native tallied at least one goal or assist in all but one game this season. He also ranked second on the Setters with 47 shots-on-goal, while adding nine ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Caputo wrapped up his regular season by earning earned back-to-back NE10 Rookie of the Week honors.
Ranking third in the NE10, Singleton led Pace with 34 goals during the 2021 campaign. The Canadian also chipped in nine assists and 18 ground balls, while starting all 13 games for the Blue and Gold. Singleton netted goals in all but two games, including five contests where he scored three or more times. He also recorded a career-high five tallies in two of Pace's final three games of the season, including during the NE10 semifinals at Saint Anselm.
Starting every game in net for the Setters, Ragusa tallied 139 saves to put him third amongst all NE10 goalkeepers. He posted a 9.93 goals-against average, while recording 10 or more stops in 10 contests. The 2019 NE10 Rookie of the Year was especially impressive in Pace's toughest games. In five matchups versus Le Moyne and Adelphi, Ragusa piled up 68 stops while allowing less than 10 goals per game. He also posted a career-high 19 saves in the Setters' NE10 playoff win at Bentley, including a pair of game-saving stops in the final minute of the game.
