KINGS POINT, N.Y. – Competing in their largest meet of the regular season, the Pace University men's and women's swimming and diving teams were in action at the USMMA Invitational on Saturday.
In what is becoming a theme for the Blue and Gold this season, it was once again Pace's divers that highlighted the afternoon.
The reigning NE10 Diver of the Week registered the Setters' top performances. Senior
Patrick Dwyer (Tomkins Cove, N.Y./North Rockland) followed up his school-record mark from last Saturday with a pair of top-three efforts.
Dwyer placed third in the one-meter with a score of 226.20 prior to finishing second in the three-meter (243.25). Classmate
Loren Searle (Savannah, N.Y./North Rose Wolcott) narrowly edged Dwyer in the one-meter with a mark of 234.20.
On the women's side, it was senior
Amy Calandro (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) leading the way. The Westchester County native placed fourth in the one-meter (178.50) and third in the three-meter 207.70.
On the swimming side of things, the Setters' women put together numerous highlights. Sophomore
Rose Clark (Acworth, Ga./Harrison) was especially impressive as she earned the win in the 200-breast with a time of 2:35.61.
Following Clark, the Blue and Gold's women tallied five more top-five finishes. Junior
Caelyn Smith (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) finished third in the same event as Clark with a time of 2:49.65.
Seniors
Daniela Lusuriello (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) and
Katherine Devaney (Tuckahoe, N.Y./Eastchester) each posted second-place times of their own. Lusuriello finished runner-up in the 500-free (5:39.80), while Devaney touched second in the 100-fly (1:02.50).
Other notable times came from freshman
Katherine Kline's (Salisbury Mills, N.Y./Washingtonville) third-place performance in the 100-free (56.62) and
Taiis Sanchez-Messado's (Ossining, N.Y./Saint Vincent Ferter) fifth-place finish in the 100-breast (1:15.90).
Freshman
Robert Gehman (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico Senior) raced to the top finish on the men's side, placing sixth in the 100-breast with a time of 1:01.30.
