Box Score DOWLING RALLIES PAST PACE IN
SECOND HALF TO WIN 14-9
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- Jake Sheppard (Brunswick East, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/East Victoria) (Brunswick East,
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/Northcote) and T.J.
Urban (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) each tallied four points but
it was not enough as the Golden Lions of Dowling College rallied
past the Setters in the second half to win 14-9. The Setters drop
to 0-2 on the season, while the Golden Lions improve to 2-1 on the
season.
The Setters came out firing early as Sheppard netted the first
score of the day off an assist by James Hammel (N. Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) (North
Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) three and half minutes into the
game. The teams would trade goals over the next five minutes of
play until Pace rallied over the final 4:50 of the opening quarter
scoring three times in that stretch to take a 5-2 lead into the
second quarter. Urban, Kevin Kadlick (Boston, MA/Catholic Memorial) (Boston, MA/Catholic
Central) and Joe Arlotta (Garden City Park, NY/St. Mary's) (Garden City Park, NY/St.
Mary's) each netted a goal in the rally. Urban added an
assist, while Sheppard recorded a pair in the rally.
Dowling opened the second quarter with two goals as John McClure
(Brampton, ON Canada) accounted for both scores to slice the Setter
lead to 5-4. Pace would answer back over the final 4:25 as
Kevin Swierc (Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) and
Kadlick would pull the Setters ahead by three at 7-4 heading into
the break.
Dowling rallied in the third quarter, erasing their halftime
deficit as McClure tallied a goal, while Kyle O'Brien (Whitby, ON
Canada) netted a pair of scores to tie the game at seven at the
10:01 mark of the period. McClure would net the go-ahead goal just
22 seconds later, putting the Golden Lions up 8-7. Dowling would
out-score Pace in the quarter 8-1 and 10-2 over the final 30
minutes of play to rally for a 14-9 victory.
For Pace, Urban and Sheppard posted identical lines with a goal
and three assists each, while Kadlick netted three scores.
Timothy Matheis (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst)
recorded 13 saves in 60 minutes of action.
For Dowling, McClure led the way for the Golden Lions with six
goals and three assists, while O'Brien totaled five points (3G,
2A). Ryan Dougherty (Port Jefferson, NY) posted six saves in 60
minutes of play.
Pace returns to action when they travel to Greensburg, PA for a
non-conference game against Seton Hill College at 1:00 pm on
Saturday, March 14.
