Box Score SETTERS UPSET #6 RANKED ADELPHI
GARDEN CITY, NY- The Pace men's lacrosse team
notched four goals in the final period to upset the #6 ranked
Panthers of Adelphi, 9-5. The Setters improve to 3-1 on the season.
The Setters got on the board early, Robert
Cornetta (Huntington Station, NY/Half Hollow Hills
West) scored off an assist by T.J. Urban (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon)
(Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon). Pace and Adelphi proceeded to
trade goals to tie the score at two early in the second period. In
the final eight minutes of the period, Joseph Streany (Croton, NY/Croton-Harmon)
(Croton, NY/Croton-Harmon) scored a power-play goal
and Cornetta would add an even strength tally to give the Setters a
4-2 advantage at the break.
Adelphi cut the Setters lead to one early in the
third but three unanswered goals by Streany, Urban and
James Hammell (N. Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) (N. Caldwell, NJ/West
Essex) put the Setters ahead 7-3 midway through
the final period. the Panthers responded with back-to-back goals to
cut the Pace lead to two at 7-5 with 4:06 left in the game. The
Setters put the game out of reach with a power-play goal and the
final tally came from Jake Sheppard (Brunswick East, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/East Victoria) (Brunswick East,
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/East Victoria) with
2:16 remaining. The Panthers would add one late but it would not be
enough as the Setter scored the upset victory.
In net, Timothy Matheis (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) (Lindenhurst,
NY/Lindenhurst) was clutch between the pipes in
the upset earned the win, stopping 10 shots.
