STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Pace University Men's Swimming and Diving earned its first dual-meet victory of the 2025-26 campaign on Saturday afternoon, defeating the College of Staten Island (CSI) by a score of 152-128. The Setters delivered a balanced team effort fueled by multiple event sweeps and relay success to lock down the road win.
Pace opened the meet with a runner-up finish in the 200 Medley Relay, as the quartet of Javier Cisternas Gomez,
Melo Meir,
Aidan Tat, and
Talis Veidis touched in a time of 1:40.37 to set the tone early.
From there, Cisternas Gomez continued his dominant early-season form, powering his way to first-place finishes in the 100 Back (54.19), 200 Back (1:59.08), and 200 IM (2:02.62), leading all competitors with three individual victories.
Meir added critical points in the breaststroke discipline, sweeping both the 100 Breast (1:01.28) and 200 Breast (2:17.80). Tat contributed key depth for the Blue and Gold as well, taking the top spot in the 200 Free (1:51.97) and posting a strong performance in the 200 Fly.
Gregory Farnum also turned in a standout performance, winning the 200 Fly (2:00.39) and earning top-three finishes in both the 100 Fly (54.21) and 100 Free (51.36).
In the distance events,
Matthew McCaffrey paced the Setters with a victory in the 500 Free (5:13.70) while also securing a runner-up finish in the 1000 Free (10:42.87).
The Setters closed the afternoon in winning fashion, dominating the 400 Free Relay. The team of
Jordyn Cristoff-Gonzalez, Farnum, Tat, and
Morgon Washington-Patterson clocked a winning time of 3:23.11 to clinch the meet and seal the program's first team triumph of the year.
It was a complete team performance for the Blue and Gold, who now shift their focus to their next competition on November 15 at home. The Setters will look to carry the momentum from their first win into a home dual meet against Assumption University and non-conference foe Mount Saint Mary College, scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at the Goldstein Fitness Center.
