PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Coming off one of the most thrilling wins in program history, the Pace University men's lacrosse team moved up to No. 9 in today's USILA National Coaches Poll.
Down by three goals with less than a minute remaining, the Setters staged an incredible comeback at No. 16 Bentley on Saturday.
Pace scored three times in the final 49 seconds to send the game into overtime.
Junior
Anthony Caputo (Westbury, N.Y./W.T Clarke) struck first to cut the deficit to 15-13, while back-to-back goals by
Jake Veres (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville)—the final coming with 7.5 seconds on the clock—forced extra time in Waltham.
It didn't take Pace long to walk-off with the victory, 16-15, as
Kyle Casey (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) hammered in the game-winner just 1:10 into overtime.
Casey finished the contest with three goals and two assists while Veres racked up seven points (3G, 4 A). Veres was selected as the NE10's Player of the Week on Monday.
Caputo, meanwhile, put together a career-best seven points of his own courtesy of five goals and two assists.
Senior goalkeeper
Louis Ragusa (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) was also vital for Pace against the Falcons. The Yorktown-Heights native piled up a career-high 20 saves, including 13 in the second half.
Coach Mariano's squad returns to action on Wednesday with a visit to No. 16 Saint Anselm.
