PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Seniors
Margaret Maclean (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) and
Lesly Sanchez Alvarez (Stamford, CT/Stamford) of the eighth-ranked Pace University field hockey team have been selected as participants for the 2017 Victory Sports Tours/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II Senior Game.
Defender Maclean and goalkeeper Sanchez Alavarez have contributed heavily to a Blue and Gold backline that has generated great success for the Setters this season. Pace currently leads the country in fewest goals allowed, surrendering just seven on the season. The Setters' 0.49 goals-allowed average is also the best in the country.
Leading a backline composed of many freshmen and sophomores, Maclean's senior presence has been apparent all season. She has logged 956 minutes of playing time this year, playing 70 minutes or more in all but one contest. Only Sanchez Alvarez has recorded more time on the field for the Blue and Gold this season. Maclean has also registered a team-best six defensive saves. Her play has been recognized with two NE10 Defensive Player of the Week honors, as well as an ECAC Defensive Player of the Week award and an NFHCA National Defensive Player of the Week distinction.
In net, Sanchez Alvarez has shut down the opposition all season long. Her seven goals against is the fewest surrendered by all goalkeepers in the nation, while she also leads the country with a .892 save percentage. She has allowed just two goals in her last 490 minutes in goal. Like Maclean, Sanchez Alvarez has enjoyed a highly decorated season, taking home NE10 Goalkeeper of the Week honors twice this year. She has also been named ECAC Defensive Player of the Week and the NFHCA National Defensive Player of the Week this year.
The Victory Sports Tour/NFHCA Division II Senior Game will take place on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Ky. The match is scheduled for the off-day between the semifinals and championship round of the NCAA Division II Field Hockey Tournament.
Sanchez Alvarez and Maclean are in action with the rest of the Setters today at 4 p.m. at Assumption College.
