Men’s Lacrosse Takes on #5 Adelphi in NE-10 Playoffs

PLEASANTVILLE, NY – After defeating Bentley last week, the Setters enter the NE-10 playoffs where they will square off against the nation's fifth ranked Adelphi Panthers. The Panthers rank third in the NE-10 Conference while the Setters rank sixth in the NE-10.

Last Time Out:
Pace last played on Saturday in a do-or-die contest against the Bentley Falcons and won 8-6.
 
The Setters were able to jump out to a 1-0 lead in a slow first quarter of play. Tyler Meigel scored an unassisted goal at the 7:29 mark to put Pace on the board.
 
In the second, Bentley netted the first tally but the Setters responded as Peter Sharp found the back of the net on an assist by freshman Wyatt Barfoot. After the go-ahead score, Pace led 2-1 at the break.
 
Junior captain Matthew Cossidente took over in the second half. He and Barfoot combined for a trio of consecutive goals to begin the quarter with Liam Brennan picking up one assist. After a Bentley rally, the score was tied at 5-5 entering the fourth quarter.
 
In the final quarter of play, Cossidente rallied for a pair of scores that came 2:59 apart from each other. The Falcons put in another score to cut the deficit to just one, but Cossidente closed the door when he recorded his fourth score of the game at the 1:36 mark.
 
Cossidente led the team with four goals while Barfoot netted two goals with two assists, five groundballs, and two caused turnovers. Miegel and Sharp each scored one goal and recorded one groundball with Sharp adding a caused turnover. Matt Ruquet was simply dominant on the draw, going 15-for-17 while scooping up a game-best seven groundballs.
 
Between the pipes, Michael Bonitatibus played the entirety of the game, recording 11 saves while allowing just six goals.
 
The Setters:
  • Barfoot ranks eleventh in the NE-10 in goals and fifth in points with team-highs of 28 and 47 respectively.  
  • Brennan ranks second on the team in both categories with 43 points and 23 goals. His 20 assists ranks fifth in the NE-10 Conference.
  • Cossidente ranks third on the team with 23 goals, totaling 35 points while adding 12 groundballs.
  • Face off artist Ruquet leads the team and ranks second in NE-10 in both groundballs and faceoff victories with 88 and 184.
  • LSM Brandon Donnellan ranks second on the team and 13th in the conference with 48 groundballs while leading the team and ranking fourth in the NE-10 with 20 caused turnovers.
  • Bonitatibus has played the majority of minutes between the pipes after starting every game, compiling an 8-6 record with 162 saves and 129 goals allowed. His 162 saves ranks sixth in the NE-10.
 
The Panthers:
  • Salvatore Tuttle leads the Panthers with 64 points behind 35 goals and 29 assists while ranking third on the team with 42 groundballs.
  • Nick Susko ranks second on the team in both points and goals with 51 and 29 respectively. He has added nine groundballs and caused six turnovers.
  • DJ Mauro leads the team in minutes logged in net and has compiled a 5-0 record while making 84 saves and allowing 54 goals.
