RINDGE, N.H. – The Setters belted six hits compared to Franklin Pierce's five, but fell to the Ravens on the road 6-0.
The Ravens got on the board first after they crossed the plate twice in the opening inning to claim a 2-0 lead over Pace. Franklin Pierce added a trio of runs before the Setters struck their first extra base of the contest when
Tom Midolo roped a double to left center. The Setters were unable to get Midolo across the plate after grounding out to end the inning.
The Setters biggest threat came in the sixth inning when they put three batters on base. Junior
Andrew Coffey singled to start the inning, but was later tossed out trying to swipe second base. Later in the inning, Midolo added his second hit of the contest to give Pace runners on first and second. After a
Michael Gulino walk, the Setters had the bases loaded until a strikeout later ended the inning.
Senior
Josh Grant entered the game in the seventh and tossed a scoreless inning for the Setters while sitting down a pair of Ravens on strikes.
Junior
Josh Garran took the mound in the eighth and struck out a pair of batters while allowing just one hit and no runs.
Midolo led Pace with a pair of hits. Senior
Brett Bittiger roped a double while
Nick LoBello and
Isaiah Rivera each added singles.
Jonathan Chudy got the start for Pace and tossed a trio of innings while allowing five runs on two hits with four strikeouts.
Tim Deegan tossed three innings in relief for the Setters and allowed one run on just one hit.
The Setters return to the diamond this weekend when they travel to Cary, N.C. to compete in five neutral site games.
