Baseball Falls in Series Finale to No. 19 Bentley

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Pace University Baseball closed out its Northeast 10 Conference series against No. 19 Bentley University on Sunday afternoon, falling 10–6 in the finale at Finnerty Field on Little League Day. The Blue and Gold jumped out to an early lead but were unable to hold off a late push from the Falcons, as the Setters dropped the four-game series, moving to 10–12 overall and 5–7 in the Northeast 10 Conference (NE10).

Bentley broke through in the third inning with a three-run frame to take a 3–0 lead, but Pace responded immediately in the bottom half. Brian White sparked the rally with a single before Rocco Cimino delivered a double. Manny Carreras followed with an RBI, and the Blue and Gold capitalized on a defensive miscue before Justin Crispino added an RBI double to give Pace a 4–3 advantage.

The Falcons answered in the fourth to even the score at 4–4 before regaining control in the fifth inning with a two-run home run to take a 6–4 lead. Bentley added another run in the sixth to extend the margin to 7–4.

Pace chipped away in the sixth inning as Cimino deliveredan RBI double to cut the deficit to 7–5. The Blue and Gold continued to battle in the eighth, as Carreras lifted a sacrifice fly to bring the score to 7–6, keeping Pace within one late.

Bentley pulled away in the ninth inning, scoring three runs to extend the lead to 10–6. Pace put two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the ninth, but were unable to complete the comeback as the Falcons closed out the game.

Carreras led the offense with two hits and two RBIs, while Cimino added two doubles and two RBIs. White recorded two hits and scored a run, and Crispino contributed a hit and an RBI as the Blue and Gold totaled 11 hits.

On the bump, Ryan Degnan started and allowed six runs over four innings while Cristian Rodriguez took the loss in relief.

Baseball returns to action on the road on Tuesday, traveling to face Adelphi University in a single game scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
