PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Pace University Baseball split a Northeast 10 Conference seven-inning doubleheader against No. 19 Bentley University on Saturday, earning a 7–6 victory in game one before falling 9–5 in game two at Finnerty Field. The Blue and Gold showcased resilience in the opener before being unable to complete the sweep, moving to 10–11 overall and 5–6 in the Northeast 10 Conference (NE10).
Game One (7 innings)
Bentley struck first in the opening inning, but the Blue and Gold responded in the third.
Anthony Depetro delivered an RBI single to cut the deficit to 3–1 before Pace tied the game later in the frame at 3–3.
The Falcons regained the lead in the sixth inning, pushing ahead 5–3, but Pace answered immediately. In the bottom half,
Nick Carlucci launched a two-run home run to even the score at 5–5, shifting momentum back to the Setters.
After Bentley took a 6–5 lead in the seventh, the Blue and Gold delivered a decisive response. Pace rallied in the bottom of the inning, plating two runs to secure the 7–6 walk-off victory and take the opener.
Depetro finished 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs, while
Brayden Sweppenhiser added three hits. Carlucci recorded a home run and two RBIs, and
Cristian Rodriguez scored twice. On the mound,
Sean Costello earned the win in relief, allowing one run over two innings with three strikeouts.
Game Two (7 innings)
The second game saw Pace answer early once again, as Depetro drove in a run in the first inning to tie the score at 1–1. The Blue and Gold continued to match Bentley offensively, tying the game again at 3–3 in the third inning.
Bentley created separation in the middle innings, scoring twice in the fourth and adding two more in the fifth to take a 7–3 lead. Pace responded in the fifth, as
Manny Carreras and
Nick Carlucci each drove in runs to cut the deficit to 7–5.
The Falcons added insurance in the sixth inning and held Pace scoreless the rest of the way, securing the 9–5 decision and earning the split.
Sweppenhiser scored twice, while
Rocco Cimino recorded two hits. Depetro added two hits and an RBI, and Carreras contributed a hit and an RBI. On the mound,
Brendan McCann took the loss, allowing five runs over 3.1 innings, while the bullpen combined for the remaining frames.
Baseball closes out the four-game series against No. 19 Bentley University on Sunday with a nine-inning game scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Finnerty Field as part of Little League Day.
