Men’s Lacrosse Takes on a Pair of Non-Conference Opponents

PLEASANTVILLE, NY – The Setters return to action this week with a pair of non-conference showdowns. They first travel to Post University on Wednesday before heading to Dowling to play the Golden Lions on Saturday.

Last Time Out:
The Setters last played in their season opener on Saturday when they fell to the Mercy Mavericks, 13-12.
 
The Mavericks scored a trio of unanswered goals in the first quarter, until Pace responded with goals by Wyatt Barfoot and Tyler Meigel to close out the opening quarter.
 
After another goal for Mercy early in the second, captain Matthew Cossidente and Peter Sharp each netted goals to knot things even at four. Later in the quarter, Frank Buffalino scored his first of the season which was followed by another goal by Barfoot.
 
Both teams played even in the third as scores by Sharp and Trevor Chernoff were bookended by a pair of Mercy goals.
 
Pace opened the fourth quarter with a pair of early goals as Anthony Gadaleta scored before Meigel added his second goal of the season. After a pair of Maverick goals, Cossidente put in his second of the game before Barfoot netted his third. However Mercy scored a pair of late goals to earn the 13-12 victory.
 
Barfoot led Pace with three goals and an assist while adding two groundballs and two caused turnovers. Cossidente and Meigel each scored two goals with one assist, with Meigel adding a caused turnover. Brandon Donnellan gobbled up seven groundballs with a pair of caused turnovers. In the net, Michael Bonitatibus played the entire game and recorded 15 saves.
 
The Setters:
  • Freshman Wyatt Barfoot leads the team in both goals and points with three and four respectively.
  • Junior captain Matthew Cossidente has scored two goals while recording one assist and scooping up one groundball.
  • Junior attacker Tyler Meigel has scored a pair of goals with one assist and one caused turnover.
  • LSM Brandon Donnellan leads the team with seven groundballs while causing two turnovers.
  • Goalkeeper Michael Bonitatibus recorded 15 saves in his only game of work so far this season.
 
The Eagles:
  • Sophomore attacker Trevor Buchas scored five goals in the only game of the season so far for Post.
  • Senior midfielder Brian Beatson has scored a goal and recorded a team-best three assists this season.
  • Sophomore Alsharif Blackman leads the team with nine groundballs while winning 47.8% of his face-off attempts.
  • Senior goalkeeper Anthony DeRosa has played the majority of the time between the pipes for the Eagles and has made eight saves while compiling an 0-1 record.

The Golden Lions:

  • Junior midfielder Brian White has scored four goals while recording one assist for a team-best five points. Additionally, he has added two groundballs and caused two turnovers.
  • Junior attacker Kevin Parker netted four goals so far this season while collecting one groundball.
  • Junior midfielder Michael Fitzpatrick has scored one goal and scooped up a team-best 15 groundballs while winning 60.7% of his face-off attempts.
  • Sophomore keeper Frank Sommers has played every minute in net for Dowling and has recorded 13 saves while compiling a record of 1-0..

Up Next:

The Setters return to the field next week for just one game, a road matchup against Dominican College on March 4th.
