Box Score LINCOLN, PA- Senior Denzel Primus-Devonish (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College) (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College) netted 18 points as the men's basketball team opened 2014 with a 64-57 loss to Lincoln University.
The Setters fall to 3-8 overall, while the Lions improve to 8-4 on the season.
Pace jumped out to a 20-11 lead midway through the opening half. Lincoln rallied to pull even at 22 with 4:29 left in the half but the Setters answered as they took a 28-24 lead at the break.
The Setters extended their lead early in the second half to 30-24 on a Jonathan Merceus (Union, NJ/Union) (Union, NJ/Union) lay-up. The Lions scored the next eight points to take a 32-30 lead at the 16:37 mark. The teams traded points over the next 13 minutes as Merceus pulled the Setters even at 49 with a free throw at the 3:35 mark of the second half. Lincoln tallied the next five points and held off a late Pace run by going 8-for-8 at the line in the final minute.
For Pace, Primus-Devonish led the way with 18 points, four rebounds and two assists, while 16 points and six boards. Jamaal James (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn College Academy) (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn College Academy) added 10 points and eight rebounds, while Kai Smith (Upper Marlboro, MD/St. Mary's Ryken) finished with nine points (3-for-5 from downtown), six boards and six assists.
The Setters return to action as they travel to Philadelphia, PA for a non-conference game against Philadelphia University on Saturday, January 4 at 2 pm.
