Box Score BROOKVILLE, NY- Denzel Primus-Devonish (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College) (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College) netted a career-high 37 points as the Setters fell on Day Two of the LIU Post Tournament to Dowling College 75-64. The Setters fall to 0-2 on the season, while the Golden Lions improve to 2-0.
The Setters controlled the action in the first half as they forced Dowling into 16 turnovers as Pace build an eight-point lead at the midway point. The Golden Lions chipped away at the Setter lead but Pace held a slim advantage at the break at 33-29. Primus-Devonish totaled 18 points in the first 20 minutes to lead the Setters.
Primus-Devonish netted the first seven Pace points of the second half, including a three-point play in the first minute, as the Setters held a five point lead at 40-35 with 16:47 left in the game. Dowling rallied back over the next six minutes as they held the Setters to two points as they tallied 23 points to take a 58-42 lead at the midway point.
The Setters battled back as they used a 9-1 run over a two minute stretch to close the score to nine points at 63-56 with 5:40 to play in the game. Primus-Devonish hit a pair of free throws along with a three-point play, while Nick Jackson (Brooklyn, NY/Boys and Girls) (Brooklyn, NY/Boys and Girls) capped the run with a dunk.
The Golden Lions answered as they pushed the score back to 11 points at 67-58 with 4:35 remaining in the game. The Setters had one more run as Primus-Devonish hit five straight free throws at the 1:52 mark and 1:20 on the clock to cut it down to seven at 71-64. Dowling held on as the Setters missed a flurry of shots in the final minute.
For the Setters, Primus-Devonish went 17-of-19 from the charity stripe en-route to his career-high point total. The senior guard added five steals, three assists and four boards. Jaylen Mann (Youngstown, OH/Liberty) (Youngstown, OH/Liberty) added six rebounds and three steals, Jamaal James (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn College Academy) added nine points and five caroms.
The Setters are back in action as they open Northeast-10 Conference play on the road at The College of Saint Rose on Wednesday, November 20 at 7:30 pm
