Box Score 2 RINDGE, N.H.- The Pace baseball team dropped a doubleheader to the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University, falling 14-6 in the opener and 6-1 in the nightcap. The Setters fall to 12-19-1 overall and 5-11 in the Northeast-10, while the Ravens improve to 28-7 and 14-3 in conference play.
The Setters got on the board in the opening inning on a RBI fielder's choice by Tyler Collins (Stamford, CT/Trinity Catholic) (Stamford, CT/Trinity Catholic). The Ravens rallied to take the lead with five runs in the third and four in the fourth innings to take a 9-1 lead. Kenny Wright (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) blasted a solo homerun to lead off the fifth, while Joe Lombardi (Briarcliff, NY/Briarcliff) (Briarcliff, NY/Briarcliff) singled in a run in the sixth to cut the score to 9-3.
Franklin Pierce added three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 12-3. Pace got a two-run double by Kyle Turnier (Waterford, CT/Waterford) (Waterford, CT/Waterford), while Wright singled in a run in the eighth but the Setters would fall in game one 14-6.
On the hill, Mackenzie King (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren) (3-2) pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing nine runs on 15 hits, while striking out three. Kyle Henriksen (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) tossed 2 1/3 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits, while Andrew Bauer (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) pitched the final two innings, allowing two unearned runs on three hits.
In the nightcap, Franklin Pierce scored four runs in the first inning, while adding two more in the fifth for a 6-0 lead. The Setters got their lone run in the eighth as Patrick Chaputian (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) tripled and scored on a wild pitch.
On the mound, Michael Tamburino (Baldwin, NY/Holy Trinity) (Baldwin, NY/Holy Trinity) (0-1) started, tossing four innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits, while Chris Camastro (Lagrangeville, NY/Arlington) pitched the final four innings, allowing two runs on six hits. Franklin Pierce was led by Gregg Downing, who pitched a complete game, allowing five hits, while striking out 12.
Pace returns to action Tuesday, April 19 when they will travel to Dobbs Ferry, NY when they will play a non-conference game against Mercy College at 3:30 pm.
