SETTERS IMPROVE TO 2-0 WITH 7-4 WIN OVER BLOOMFIELD

WEST HARRISON, N.Y.-  The Setters improve to 2-0 on the season with a 7-4 win over the Deacons of Bloomfield College in non-conference action. Pace remains undefeated on the season at 2-0, while the Deacons fall to 0-5 overall.

Pace would take an early 1-0 in the second inning on a RBI groundout by Michael Rodriguez (East Hampton, NY/East Hampton). Bloomfield would tie the game at one in the top of the fifth but the Setters would break the game open in the bottom of the inning as they scored five times.

Chris Roemer (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) led off the fifth with a walk followed by a double by Laurence Flammia (Massapeaqua Park, NY/St. Anthony's) (Massapequa, NY/St. Anthony's) to drive in Roemer. Kenny Wright (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) doubled to score Flammia, while Tyler Collins (Stamford, CT/Trinity Catholic) (Stamford, CT/Trinity Catholic) singled to put runners on first and third. James Pjura (Shelton, CT/Shelton) (Shelton, CT/Shelton) got the big hit of the inning with a two-run double. Pjura would later steal third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher to cap the scoring for Pace in the inning.

Pjura would later tack on a run in the seventh with a double to score Collins. Bloomfield would push across a run in the eighth and two more in the ninth but came up short as the Pace bullpen closed the door for the win.

Mackenzie King (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren) started, going the first four innings, allowing no runs on three hits and struck out four. Jonathan Hornung (Calverton, NY/Riverhead) (Calverton, NY/Riverhead) tossed 2/3 of an inning, while Neil Pezzullo (Harwich, MA/Pelham Memorial) (Harwich, MA/Pelham Memorial) earned the win as he tossed 3 1/3 innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits and fanned two. Patrick Chaputian (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) got one out in the ninth, while Kyle Henriksen (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) recorded the final two outs to earn his first save of the season.

At the plate, Collins went 2-for-3 with three runs scored, while Pjura went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Brandon Martineson (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) followed up his solid opening day with a 2-for-4 day.

The Setters return to action on Tuesday, March 1 when the Setters will play Mercy College at 2:30 pm at Passidomo Park in West Harrison, NY.
