Box Score STRONG SECOND HALF LEADS
SETTERS TO 14-9 WIN OVER SAINT ANSELM
MANCHESTER, N.H.– Thomas Earl (North Babylon, NY/St. Anthony's) (North Babylon,
NY/St. Anthony's) led the Setters with four goals
and two assists as Pace outscored Saint Anselm 9-4 in the second
half enroute to a 14-9 victory. The Setters improve to 2-4 overall
and 1-2 in the NE-10, while the Hawks fall to 3-3 and 1-2 in
conference play.
Earl got the Setters on the board with a goal early in the first
quarter off a Mike Pacheco (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY/Hastings) (Hastings-on-Hudson,
NY/Hastings) assist. Saint Anselm would answer with three
unanswered goals to pull ahead 3-1. Earl would net his second score
of the quarter off a Kevin Kadlick (Boston, MA/Catholic Memorial) (Boston, MA/Catholic
Memorial) to pull to 3-2 after the first quarter.
The Hawks opened the second quarter with a goal to go back up
4-2 but the Setters would capitalize on a pair of Saint Anselm
penalties. The Setters rallied with three unanswered goal,
including two on the power play, to pull ahead 5-4 with 4:05 left
in the first half. Kevin Swierc (Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) (Clark, NY/Arthur L.
Johnson) and Joe Clark (Hopkinton,
MA/Hopkinton)scored on the man-up opportunities off
assists by Earl and Kadlick. Pace would score on the fastbreak as
David Gaber (Suffern, NY/Suffern/SUNY Oneonta) (Suffern, NY/Sufffern/SUNY
Oneonta)scored on the breakaway from goalie Sean
Kearney (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac/Endicott College). The Hawks
would score late in the half to tie the score at five heading into
halftime.
The Setters came out firing in the second half, scoring five
unanswered goals as Nicholas Pellerito (Glen Cove, NY/Kellenberg) (Glen Cove,
NY/Kellenberg) assisted on all five goals in the Pace
rally to pull ahead 10-5. Kadlick and Earl netted the first two
goals in the run, while Nick Ospina (Johnson, NY/Minisink Valley) (Johnson, NY/Minisink
Valley), James Hammel (N. Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) (North Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) and
Clark capped off the scoring in the third quarter for the Setters.
Saint Anselm netted a pair of goal late in the third to slice the
score to 10-7 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Pace offense continued to their second half momentum,
scoring four times to open the fourth quarter as Clark and
Pellerito scored early, while Kadlick and Earl scored late to pull
the Setters ahead 14-7 with 6:18 left in the game. The Hawks would
net a pair of goals late but came up short as the Setters won 14-9.
For Pace, Earl's six points (4G-2A) and Pellerito's
six points (1G-5A) led the Setters to the first NE-10 win of the
season. Clark netted a hat trick, while Kadlick finished with two
goals and two assists. In goal, Kearney posted 17 saves in a 60
minute effort.
Pace returns to action on Wednesday, April 7 when the Setters
will host American International College in Northeast-10 Conference
action scheduled for 4:00 pm at Pace Field.
