ADELPHI 13-9
HAMMEL NETS HAT TRICK ON SENIOR DAY
PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.– James Hammel (N. Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) (North Caldwell,
NJ/West Essex) recorded a hat trick in the Setters'
13-9 loss to the Panthers of Adelphi University in Northeast-10
Conference action. Pace falls to 6-6 overall and 5-4 in the NE-10,
while the Panthers improve to 8-4 and 6-3 in conference play.
Adelphi got off to a fast start with four unanswered goals to
start the game. Pace would answer with nine seconds left in the
quarter as Kevin Swierc (Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) (Clark, BNY/Arthur L.
Johnson) scored off a Nicholas Pellerito (Glen Cove, NY/Kellenberg) (Glen
Cove, NY/Kellenberg) assist to trail 4-1 after the first
quarter.
The teams would trade goals in the second quarter as
Thomas Earl (North Babylon, NY/St. Anthony's) (North Babylon, NY/St. Anthony's), Joseph Clark (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton) (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton) and Hammel each scored in
the quarter for the Setters. The Panthers would take a 7-4 lead
into the break.
Adelphi would get an early goal to open the third quarter but
Sweirc on the fast break from Oliver Musso (Roslyn Heights, NY/St. Mary's) (Roslyn Heights,
NY/St. Mary's) pulled Pace back to within three
goals at 8-5. Hammel closed the gap as he scored off a
Patrick Joyce (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton/Broome C.C.) (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton/Broome
CC) assist to pull the Setters to within two at 8-6. The
Panthers would close out the final 3:10 of the third quarter with
three unanswered goals to pull ahead 11-6 heading into the final
quarter.
Kevin Kadlick (Boston, MA/Catholic Memorial) (Boston, MA/Catholic Memorial)
would take advantage of a Panther penalty to tally a goal off an
Earl assist on the power play to pull the Setters to four at 11-7.
The teams would trade goals the rest of the way as Hammel and
Pellerito each netted unassisted in the final quarter as the
Setters came up short 13-9.
For Pace, Hammel's three goals led the way while Swierc
netted two goals. Earl and Pellerito both finished with two points
on a goal and an assist. In net, Sean Kearney (Mahopac,
NY/Mahopac/Endicott College) recorded 11 saves in 60
minutes of action.
Pace returns to action on Saturday, May 1 when the Setters
travel to Rindge, NH for a Northeast-10 Conference game scheduled
for 1:00 pm against Franklin Pierce in their regular season
finale.
