GAME SHUTOUT AGAINST FRANKLIN PIERCE
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- Freshman Brian Sundberg (Westbury, NY/WT Clarke) (Westbury,
NY/WT Clarke) (4-1) led the Setters to a 1-0 Northeast-10
Conference win over the Franklin Pierce Ravens by tossing a
complete game shutout. The freshman only gave up four hits,
two walks, and four strikeouts in his nine innings pitched.
The Setters improve to 12-23 overall, and 6-14 in the NE-10,
while the Ravens fall to 26-11 overall and 12-5 in conference play
this season.
The lone run in the ballgame came in the bottom of the first
inning, when Kyle Turnier (Waterford, CT/Waterford) (Waterford,
CT/Waterford) hit a double to left. Mike Torello (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire)
(Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) would follow up by sending a
double to center field which would drive in the only run of the
ball game.
Franklin Pierce looked to cause trouble in the top of the ninth
with runners on first and second, and one out, but Sundberg pitched
out of trouble with fly outs to the outfield.
Despite the loss, Franklin Pierce's Brian Maloney (2-2)
also tossed a complete game by giving up one run over eight
innings, on four hits and eleven strikeouts.
The Setters will resume play on Friday, April 23 when they play
Bloomfield College in non-conference action starting at 3 pm on
Pace's Finnerty Field.
