Box Score SETTERS COME UP SHORT IN
LOSS TO CONCORDIA 7-5
PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- Vinny Dammann (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) (Mullica Hill,
NJ/Gloucester Catholic) went 2-for-3 with two doubles and
two runs scored as the Setters came up short against Concordia 7-5
in non-conference action. The Setters fall to 5-13 overall, while
the Clippers improve to 14-6 on the season.
The Clippers got on the board in the opening inning as T.J.
Walsh (Eastchester, NY) had a two-run double in the frame, while
Michael Sciacchitano (Wappingers Falls, NY) added a run scoring
double for a 3-0 Concordia lead. The Clippers would tack on a run
in the second inning on a Donnie Roth (Congers, NY) RBI double.
The Setters would chip away in the second as Dammann walked and
Brandon Martineson (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley)
reached on a fielder's choice to put runners are first and
second. The runners would move up a base on a wild pitch, while
Dammann scored on a Ryan McKeown (Sicklerville, NJ/Timber Creek) (Sicklerville, NJ/Timber
Creek) groundout. Martineson would score on the second
wild pitch of the inning.
Concordia added a pair of runs in the third on back-to-back hit
by pitches with the bases loaded to take a 6-2 lead. Pace would
slice into the Clipper lead in the third as Dammann doubled, moved
to third on a Martineson infield single and scored on a McKeown
single up the middle.
In the fourth, JJ Conrad (Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley) (Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill
Valley) led off with a single and advanced to second on an
infield single. Conrad reached third on a sacrifice bunt and scored
on a sacrifice fly by Chris Spatkowski (Bristol, CT/Bristol
Eastern).
In the sixth, Chris Roemer (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) (Ardsley,
NY/Ardsley) singled and stole second. Roemer would score
on a single by Mike Torello (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) (Cheshire,
CT/Cheshire) to close the gap to trail 6-5 after six
innings. The Clippers would add a run in the eighth as the Setters
comeback stalled in the late innings. Concordia left 11 runners on
base, while Pace stranded 13 runners.
For Pace, Edward Byrne (Yonkers, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) (Yonkers, NY/Archbishop
Stepanic) pitched 2/13 innings, allowing six runs (four
earned) on five hits, to fall to 1-2 on the season. Kyle
Henriksen (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) was outstanding in
relief, tossing 5 1/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits, while
striking out six. Patrick Chaputian (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) (Sea Cliff, NY/North
Shore) tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit
and struck out one.
For Concordia, Rafael Martinez (Bronx, NY) tossed six innings,
allowing five runs on nine hits, to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Keith Malanga (Mount Vernon, NY) pitched a scoreless ninth to earn
his third save of the season.
The Setters return to action on Saturday, March 27 when Pace
will travel to Waltham MA for a Northeast-10 Conference
doubleheader against Bentley University at noon.
