Box Score SETTERS SHOOT DOWN YELLOW
JACKETS; ADVANCE TO NE-10 SEMIFINALS
#2 PACE WILL HOST #3 STONEHILL ON FRIDAY AT 7 PM
PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- Brittany Huggins (Windsor, CT/Windsor) (Windsor,
CT/Windsor) led a balanced Setter scoring attack with 13
points and nine rebounds as Pace defeated the Yellow Jackets of
American International 62-46 in the Northeast-10 Quarterfinals. The
Setters advance to the semifinals, where they will host the #3 seed
Stonehill College on Friday at 7 pm. Pace improves to 22-6 overall,
while American International finishes the season at 12-17.
The Setters came out sluggish over the five minutes as American
International jumped out to an early 8-2 lead. Pace would bounce
back, using a pivotal 22-4 run to put Pace up 24-12 with 5:11 left
in the opening half. The Setters would eventually take a 31-16 lead
into the break as the Pace defense limited the Yellow Jackets to
25% shooting for the opening half.
Pace continued their hot shooting in the second half, as the
Setters shot 12-for-23 (52.2%) from the field, while American
International shot 10-for-32 (31.3%) over the final 20 minutes of
play. The Setters extended their to as many as 23 with just over
eight minutes left in the game before cruising to the finish,
winning by 16 points.
For Pace, Huggins led the way with 13 points and nine rebounds,
while Maral Javadifar (Flushing, NY/The Mary Louis Academy) (Flushing, NY/Mary Louis
Academy) netted 11 points. Taylor Losey (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern)
(Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern), who was recently named to
the NE-10 First Team, finished with 10 points, five rebounds and
two assists. Kristin Connolly (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) (Staten Island, NY/St.
Peter's) tallied nine points, eight boards and three
blocks.
Pace returns to action on Friday, March 5 when the Setters will
host the #3 seed Stonehill College Skyhawks in the NE-10 Semifinals
at 7 pm at the Goldstein Fitness Center on Pace's Pleasantville
campus.
