PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Pace University Women's Basketball kept things tight through two quarters Tuesday night but saw Adelphi University use a decisive third quarter run to create separation in a 69–45 Northeast 10 decision inside the Goldstein Fitness Center. The loss moves the Setters to 6–17 overall and 2–12 in Northeast 10 Conference play.
Pace opened with strong defensive pressure and matched Adelphi possession for possession early.
Ciara Collins knocked down a three to trim the deficit to 4–3, and
Anisa Akinola converted an and-one to tie the game at 6–6.
Claire Fitzpatrick sank two free throws to give the Setters an 8–6 edge, but Adelphi closed the quarter on a late basket to lead 11–8 after one.
The Setters stayed within striking distance in the second.
LyNeta Brand scored inside to make it 11–10, and
Cali Chiocchi finished in the paint to put Pace back in front 12–11. Collins added a midrange jumper to cut the margin to 19–14, and Akinola hit from the stripe to bring Pace within 24–19. Adelphi, however, answered with a late push and carried a 32–19 advantage into halftime.
Adelphi flipped the game coming out of the locker room. The Panthers opened the third on an 8–2 run to stretch the lead to 40–21 and continued to score in transition. Collins responded with a three to make it 42–26, and Brand added a layup to cut it to 47–30, but Adelphi maintained control and extended the margin to 54–32 entering the fourth.
Despite the late effort for the Blue and Gold, Adelphi closed the game at the free-throw line to secure the 69–45 final.
Collins led Pace with 17 points, while Akinola added 10 points and four assists. Brand grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and chipped in seven points, and Fitzpatrick provided a spark off the bench with nine points.
The Setters hit the road to Saint Michael's College this weekend for a 1:30 p.m. tip-off on Saturday.
