Box Score SETTERS FAIL TO HANG ON IN
82-79 LOSS TO GREYHOUNDS
MILLS AND WOODS SCORE 21 POINTS APIECE IN LOSS
WORCESTER, MA- Pace sophomores Adrian Mills (Woodbridge, VA/Paul VI) (Woodbridge,
VA/Paul VI) and Ryan Woods (Staten Island, NY/St. Peters Boys) (Staten Island, NY/St.
Peter's Boys) led the Setters offense by scoring 21 points
apiece against the Greyhounds of Assumption College. Unfortunately
the Setters were unable to make a comeback in the final minute,
losing to the Greyhounds 82-79.
Pace falls to 9-13 overall and 7-10 in the NE-10 with the loss.
For the Greyhounds, the win improves their record to 11-11 overall
and 8-9 in conference play.
The two schools dueled to a tie at eight, but a 9-3 run by
Assumption would give the Greyhounds a 17-11 advantage with 11:52
remaining in the opening period. The Setters would rally their way
back over the next few minutes to steal the lead away from the
Greyhounds after a three pointer from Carlos Howard (Fort Washington, MD/Gonzaga College High) (Fort
Washington, MD/Gonzaga College High) gave Pace a one point
lead with the score 22-21. The Setters would keep their close lead
for the remainder of the half ending the opening period with a
score of 35-33.
Pace's lead would be short lived in the second half, after a
layup and a three pointer by Assumption's Mike Baldarelli in the
first minute of the second half gave Assumption a three point lead.
The Greyhounds remained in control throughout the second half,
despite the Setters keeping themselves within striking distance.
With 57 seconds remaining and the Setters down by seven, a
trifecta from sophomore Justin Alston (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond H.S.) (Bronx, NY/St.
Raymond HS) would bring the Setters to within four. The
Greyhounds extended their lead to eight shortly after, but a three
pointer from Woods would cut the deficit to five with 27 seconds
remaining. Two key missed free throws for Assumption cleared the
way for a Mills three pointer to bring Pace's deficit down to two
with ten seconds to go. Unfortunately, the Setters were unable to
get another shot off, allowing Assumption to come away with the
three point win.
The Setters will be returning to action on Tuesday, February 9
when they face off against Northeast-10 Conference foe Southern
Connecticut State University at 7:30 p.m. in Pace's New York City
Campus.
