Box Score PACE FALLS IN SERIES FINALE
TO FLORIDA SOUTHERN
LAKELAND, FL- The Pace University
baseball team fell to the Mocs of Florida Southern College 22-4, to
close out a four game series with the team. The Setters fall to 0-4
on the season, while the Mocs improve to 11-0 in their season.
Florida Southern would jump out to a commanding lead in a third
inning, when the team drove in 12 runs to put themselves ahead. The
Setters would put themselves on the board in the fourth inning,
when Tyler Hart (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) drove in
a run after grounding out to short.
Hart would physically score a run in the seventh after
Vinny Dammann (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester
Catholic) grounded out to first. Prior to Dammann's ground
out, Laurence Flammia (Massapeaqua Park, NY/St. Anthony's) (Massapequa, NY/St.
Anthony's) drove a double to left field. Flammia would
advance to third on Dammann's ground out, and would score Pace's
third run on a fielder choice by Robert Horn (Stamford, CT/Westhill) (Stamford,
CT/Westhill).
The Mocs would bring the score to 22-3 in the bottom half of the
seventh, and the Setters would tag on one more run in the top of
the ninth after a Steven Sterlacci (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot) (Bohemia,
NY/Connetquot) single drove home Patrick Chaputian (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore)
(Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) from third.
Junior Michael Sciarretta (Stamford, CT/Stamford) (Stamford,
CT/Stamford) is given the loss after allowing five runs
(four earned) in 2 1/3 innings, on two hits and six walks to drop
to 0-1 on the season.
The Setters return to action on Saturday February, 27 when they
play in a doubleheader against Nyack and Mercy Colleges in
Flemmington, NJ starting at 11 am.
