Box Score 2 SETTERS FALL IN BOTH GAMES
OF DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST MOCS
LAKELAND, FL- The Setters dropped a
pair of games to the Florida Southern College Mocs. The Mocs took
game one by a 13-2 score, and won the second game by a score of
14-0. Pace falls to 0-3 on the season, while Florida Southern
improves to 10-0.
In the first game, Florida Southern took a commanding lead
early, by going on a six run rally in the game's second inning. The
Setters remained scoreless until the sixth inning when senior
Mike Torello (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) hit a two-run
home run to put the Setters on the board. Torrello went 2-for-4 in
the game along with a walk.
Michael Franza (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) started
the game for Pace lasting two innings giving up six runs (five
earned) and would be the losing pitcher in this game starting the
season 0-1. Franza was relieved by Salvatore DePaola (East Meadow, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) (East
Meadow, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) who lasted five innings
giving up four earned runs, and striking out three.
The Mocs took another early lead in game two, by scoring two
runs on three hits in the first inning of the game. After taking a
5-0 lead in the third, Florida Southern expanded its lead with a
nine run fourth inning to put the game away for the sweep of the
doubleheader.
Mackenzie King (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren
Regional) got the start for game two, going 3 innings and
giving up five earned runs. King received the loss and will go 0-1
on the season.
The Setters return to action tomorrow when they finish their
series against Florida Southern College with a game starting at
noon.
