PACE WINS SIXTH IN A ROW; MOVES INTO THREE-WAY TIE FOR
SECOND PLACE
PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- Maral Javadifar (Flushing, NY/The Mary Louis Academy) (Flushing, NY/Mary
Louis Academy) netted a team-high 19 points as the Setters
rolled past the Falcons of Bentley University 71-55 in Northeast-10
Conference action. The Setters post their sixth win in a row to
improve to 15-5 overall and 12-3 in the NE-10 to move into a
three-way tie for second place in the conference. The Falcons drop
to 14-6 overall and 12-3 in conference play.
The Setters dominated the first half, building a 22-9 lead with
six minutes left in the opening period. The Falcons struggled out
of the gate, hitting only one of their first 15 field goal attempts
over the first 15 minutes of play. Bentley would rally over the
final 4:30 but still trailed Pace at the break 34-22.
Bentley opened the second half on an 8-4 run to close to with
eight points at 38-30 with 17:30 left in the game. Pace would
answer with a 7-0 burst as a Laura Mooney (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) (Staten Island,
NY/St. John Villa) put the Setters back up by 11 and
lay-up by Brittany Huggins (Windsor, CT/Windsor) (Windsor, CT/Windsor)
and Carol Johnson (New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman) (New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman)
extended the Pace advantage back to 15 points at 45-30. The Setters
would expand the lead to as many as 19 and cruised the rest of the
way to a pivotal 71-55 victory over the Falcons.
For Pace, Javadifar led the Setters with 19 points, along with
five boards, three assists and two steals. Huggins totaled 17
points, six rebounds and four assists, while Lisa Welsome (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's)
(Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) grabbed a career-high 11
rebounds.
Pace returns to action on Wednesday, February 3 when the Setters
will travel to Garden City, NY for a Northeast-10 Conference game
against Adelphi at 5:30 pm.
