HIT CAPS OFF HUGE SETTERS COMEBACK OVER SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE

PLEASANTVILLE, NY - The Pace
University baseball team was at it again mounting another big
comeback scoring five runs in the final two innings to defeat the
Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University 5-4 on Thursday
afternoon at Finnerty Field. The Setters are now 8-5-1 at Finnerty
Field this season.
The win will improve Pace to 13-18-1 for the season, and 7-8 in
the NE-10 Conference. The loss drops the Penmen to 10-16-1, and
7-8-1 in conference play.
Southern New Hampshire took advantage of a couple Pace mental
mistakes in the early innings to take a 3-0 lead after seven
innings. Pace starter Nicholas DeMeo (Farmingville, NY/Sachem East) (Farmingville,
NY/Sachem East) went six innings giving up three runs (one
earned) on two hits. DeMeo also struck out four, and walked three
is his solid outing.
With Pace now trailing 4-0 going into the bottom of the eighth
the offense finally came alive. Kyle Turnier (Waterford, CT/Waterford) (Waterford,
CT/Waterford) started off the inning by singling to the
shortstop. With now one out in the inning Chris
Spatkowski (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern)
dropped a bunt single down the third base line to put runners on
first and second with one out. Andre Liscinsky (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) (Trumbull,
CT/Trumbull) followed with an RBI single through the right
side to make the score 4-1. Vinny Dammann (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) (Mullica Hill,
NJ/Gloucester Catholic) then stepped up and drilled an RBI
double to left center to cut the deficit to 4-2. The Setters went
on to score two more runs on an error by the Southern New Hampshire
third basemen which tied the game up at 4-4 at the end of eight
innings.
Frank Luongo (West Harrison, NY/Harrison) (West Harrison, NY/Harrison) (2-1)
kept the Pace momentum going by sitting the Penmen down in order in
the top of the ninth inning.
Turnier led off the bottom of the ninth by getting hit by a
pitch. He then moved to second with two outs now in the inning
after a Spatkowski groundout. With two outs now in the inning
Liscinsky came up to the plate with a chance to win it. Liscinsky,
who continues to have an amazing month of April, didn't disappoint
as he crushed the game winning single over the left fielders head
to give Pace the win.
Pace will be back on the diamond on Saturday, April 11 as they
will host the University of New Haven in a doubleheader. The first
game is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
