Box Score SETTERS FALL ON SECOND HALF
HAWK RALLY
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Pace lacrosse team fell as the Hawks of
the Saint Anselm College rallied in the second half to defeat the
Setters 8-6. The Setters fall to 3-7 overall and 2-4 in the NE-10,
while the Hawks improve to 5-4 and 3-2 in conference play.
In rainy conditions throughout the game, the Setters jumped out
to a promising start as Jake Sheppard (Brunswick East, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/East Victoria) (Brunswick East,
Melbourne, Victoria,
Australia/Northcote) put Pace up 1-0 off a Joe
Clark (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton) assist. Saint Anselm would
tie the score at one a minute and a half later but the Setters
would net four unanswered goals in a five and a half minute stretch
in the opening quarter to build at 5-1 lead after one period of
play. T. J. Urban (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) would
net the second goal for the Setters, while assisting on the ensuing
two scores. Clark tallied a man-up goal, while James Hammel (N. Caldwell, NJ/West Essex)
(North Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) capped the Setters' first
quarter run with a score at the 3:20 mark.
The teams would trade goals in the second quarter as the Hawks'
Matt O'Connell and Sheppard kept the game a four-goal Setter
advantage heading into halftime.
In the second half, the Hawks rallied for five goals in the
third quarter, while keeping the Setters off the board. O'Connell
had three assists in the quarter, while Chris Murphy and Jeff
Dunkle each netted a man-up goal. Dunkle's go-ahead goal with 1:50
left in the period, proved to be the game-winner as Hawks out-shot
the Setters 22-11 in the second half. Murphy would score a late
fourth quarter goal for Saint Anselm for the final score.
For Pace, Sheppard (2G, 1A) and Urban (1G, 2A) led the way for
the Setters. Hammel and Clark each posted a goal and an assist,
while Michael Mezzo (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) (East Brunswick, NJ/East
Brunswick) chipped in a goal. In net, goaltender
Timothy Matheis (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst)
played 60 minutes, recording 13 saves.
Pace returns to action when they travel to Rockville Centre, NY
on Wednesday, April 14 for a non-conference game against Molloy
College a 4 pm.
