PLEASANTVILLE, NY- James Hammel (N. Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) (North Caldwell, NJ/West
Essex) and Jake Sheppard (Brunswick East, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/East Victoria) (Brunswick East,
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/Northcote) combined for 10
points as the Setters cruised past the Ravens of Franklin Pierce
University, 19-8. The Setters improve to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the
Northeast-10, while the Ravens drop to 1-6 and 1-3 in conference
play.
Sheppard got the Setters rolling early, netting the first score
of the day less than one minute into the game. The team would trade
goals, but the Ravens would jump out in front 4-2 with 2:11 left in
the opening period. Sheppard would rally the Setters back, scoring
with 48 seconds left in the first quarter and got the equalizer 12
seconds into the second off as assist from T.J. Urban (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon)
(Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon).
The Urban-Sheppard duo would connect again as Urban scored a
man-up goal to give Pace a 5-4 lead at the 13:42 mark. The Ravens
would rally just 29 seconds later, tying the score at five. It
would be all Setters after that as Pace would blow the game up with
a 10-goal that started at the 11:18 mark of the second quarter with
a Hammel score and ended when the Ravens finally netted a goal with
29 seconds left in the third quarter.
Hammel dominated the run, accounting for four goals and one
assist, while Kevin Kadlick (Boston, MA/Catholic Memorial) (Boston, MA/Catholic
Central) posted a goal and an assist. Kevin Swierc (Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson)
(Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) also chipped in with a pair
of assists in the game-breaking run.
For Pace, Hammel (4G, 1A) and Sheppard (3G, 2A) dominated the
action for the Setters in the victory. Joe Page (Eagan, MN/Eagan) (Eagan,
MN/Eagan) was third in points for the Setters, totaling
one goal and three assists. Urban tallied a pair of goals and one
assist, while Swierc totaled three points (1G, 2A). Marc
Malecki (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) dominated
face-offs, winning 24-of-29 on the day. In net, Timothy
Matheis (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) posted nine saves in
45 minutes of action, while Kevin Grady (Medford, NY/Bellport) (Medford,
NY/Bellport) played the entire fourth quarter, totaling
three saves.
Pace returns to action when they host the Purple Knights of
Saint Michael's College on Saturday, April 4 for a Northeast-10
Conference game scheduled for 1 pm.
