SHEPPARD'S FIVE POINTS LEADS THE WAY FOR PACE IN THE NE-10
VICTORY
MANCHESTER, NH- James Hammel (N. Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) (North Caldwell, NJ/West
Essex) completed the Setters victory over Southern New
Hampshire scoring the game winning goal with 48 seconds left in the
game. The Setters improve 3-3 and 1-0 in the NE-10 while the Penman
fall 0-3 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.
The first half began with the Penman's Terrance Nash scoring the
first goal which led to a back and forth battle between Pace and
Southern New Hampshire. Nash's goal was answered by Michael
Mezzo's (East Brunswick, NJ/East
Brunswick) game-tying goal at the 9:14 mark. Pace then
went on a four-goal run with Jake Sheppard (Brunswick East, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/East Victoria)
(Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/Brunswick East)
putting Pace up 5-3. Pace would head in to halftime with a 6-4
lead.
Joe Page (Eagan, MN/Eagan) (Eagan, MN/Eagan) opened the third
quarter with a goal less than one minute in to the period to give
the Setters the largest lead of the day at 7-4. The teams would
trade goals with the Penman closing the quarter on a three-goal
rally to tie the game at 10 heading in to the final quarter.
Southern New Hampshire took their first lead since early in the
opening quarter as Dustin Latham netted his fourth goal of the day
for an 11-10 Penman lead. Sheppard and Joe Arlotta (Garden City Park, NY/St. Mary's) (Garden
City Park, NY/St. Mary) answered with a pair of goals 42
seconds apart to put the Setters back up by one at 12-11 with 8:48
remaining in the game. Mike Ball would tally his third goal of the
day, tying the score at 12 setting up Hammel's heroics in the final
minute of the game.
For Pace, Sheppard led the way with five points (4G, 1A), while
Page totaled four points (2G, 2A). Hammel, Mezzo
and Arlotta netted two goals each for the Setters.
Pace's next game of the 2009 season is scheduled for Wednesday,
March 25 as the Setters will host Le Moyne College at Pace Field on
Pace's Pleasantville campus. The game will start at 3:30 p.m.
