PACE ENDS FLORIDA SPRING BREAK TRIP WITH A KEY VICTORY

MIAMI GARDENS, FL- Patrick Chaputian (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, while Joe Cotone (Yorktown Hts., NY/Lakeland) (Yorktown Heights, NY/Lakeland) had a key two-run triple in the seventh as the Setters rallied back with an 11-run seventh frame to post a victory to close out their Florida road trip. Molloy struck first, scoring four runs in the third and added two more in the fifth inning for a 6-0 lead. The Setters exploded in the seventh, rallying for 11 runs in the inning to pull ahead 11-6. The inning started off inauspiciously for Pace as the first two batters were retired on groundouts. Chaputian kicked off the rally with a single up the middle. From there, the Setters could not be stopped as the next five batters either singled or drew a walk, while Pace answered with four runs to make it 6-4. Cotone would tie the game at six with a two-run triple. Two batters later Vinny Dammann (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) would drive in Cotone with the seventh run of the inning for a 7-6 lead, Pace's first lead of the game.

The Setters would go on to score four more runs for an improbable two-out 11-run rally in the inning. Chaputian had two singles in the inning, while adding a stolen base, drove in one run and scored twice. When the dust settled, the Setters had sent 15 batters to the plate, scoring 11 runs on eight hits, pulling ahead 11-6 . Pace would hold off a Molloy rally in the seventh as the Lions put two runners on base but failed to score.  The bullpen tandem of Frank Luongo (West Harrison, NY/Harrison) (West Harrison, NY/Harrison) and Michael Sciarretta (Stamford, CT/Stamford) (Stamford, CT/Stamford) shut the door in the eighth and ninth innings respectively as the Setters closed out their Florida road trip with an important regional victory.

On the mound, Michael Franza (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) (1-0) tossed 1 1/3 innings of scoreless and hitless ball, earning the win in relief. Luongo (1 2/3 innings, one hit) along with Sciaretta (one inning, 0 hits/runs) kept Molloy off the board in the final two-plus innings for secure the win for the Setters.

Pace returns to the Northeast Region for their Northeast-10 Conference opener when they Setters will host the Hawks of Saint Anselm College on Saturday, March 21 for a noon doubleheader.
