OPENER TO #16 BARRY UNIVERSITY 12-6
MIAMI SHORES, FL- The Pace University
baseball team lost its first game on their week long spring break
trip down in Miami Shores, FL to Barry University 12-6.
The loss drops Pace to 4-5-1 this season, while the win will
improve Barry University to 17-2 for the year.
Pace got off to a quick start as Andre Liscinsky (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull)
(Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) led off the game with a triple to
deep right field. Chris Spatkowski (Bristol, CT/Bristol
Eastern) then drove him in on a RBI groundout to
shortstop.
The Setters momentum would be short lived as Barry responded by
scoring the next six runs in the game to make the score 6-1 Barry
after three innings.
The Pace starting pitcher Kevin Vieira (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) (Trumbull,
CT/Trumbull) only went an inning and two thirds giving up
two hits, and three runs. Only one of the runs was earned as the
Setters defense committed two errors in the first inning. Pace
struggled in the field all day as the Setters made six total errors
in the game which led to five unearned runs.
Pace was led offensively by Spatkowski who had two hits, a run
scored, and knocked in a run as well. Denis Almonti
(Jefferson Valley, NY/Lakeland) also had a solid day for
the Setters as he finished the game with two hits, and a RBI in the
losing effort.
Pace will be back in action tomorrow as they will play Barry
University in a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m.
