Box Score ASSUMPTION PROVES TO
BE TOO TALL OF A TASK AS PACE FALLS 81-67
PACE GETS OUT-REBOUNDED 56-26 IN LOSS
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Pace University
men's basketball team lost a physical Northeast-10 conference
matchup to the Greyhounds of Assumption by the score of 81-67. With
the loss Pace will fall to 6-6 on the season with a 4-3 mark in the
Northeast-10, while Assumption will improve to 8-5 on the year and
6-3 in conference play. Pace falls to 4-3 at home in the Goldstein
Fitness Center this season.
Both teams came out trading baskets in the early going as no one
could get any real separation with the score being 16-14 at the
halfway point of the first half. Pace started the game very
aggressive on the offensive end as they got six of their first 14
points from the free-throw line. Assumption then went on to use a
7-0 run to go ahead by nine 25-16 with 7:19 left in the first half.
Pace continued to chip away at the Greyhounds lead getting it down
to five at 37-32 at the half. The Setters stayed close due in large
part to the play of Ryan Woods (Staten Island, NY/St. Peters Boys) (Staten Island, NY/Saint
Peter's) who had 10 first half points for Pace. Pace shot
42 percent from the field in the first half with only five
turnovers.
The start of the second half saw Assumption pushing the tempo on
the Setters as they displayed solid ball movement which helped the
Greyhounds extend their lead to 13 at 65-52 with 8:42 left in the
game. Pace clawed their way back into it getting to within seven
with Laurence McGhee (Linden, NJ/Linden) (Linden, NJ/Linden) leading
the Setters in the second half with his constant penetration, and
free-throw shooting. McGhee was 7-of-9 from the free-throw line in
the second half, and he also dished out his 300th career
assist in the period as well. Assumption's size proved to be the
difference in the end as Pace ran out of energy down the stretch,
and wound up losing by 14. The Setters were out-rebounded in the
game 56-26 which saw the Greyhounds dominate in second chance
points 24-4.
Pace was led by Laurence McGhee (Linden, NJ/Linden) who finished with a game-high 21
points, a team-high four assists, and five steals. The Setters also
got a solid game from Ryan Woods (Staten Island, NY/St. Peters Boys) who had 17 points, five rebounds,
and two steals. Adrian Mills (Woodbridge, VA/Paul VI) (Woodbridge, VA/Paul
VI) had a nice game as well with six points, five
rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
The Setters will be back in action on Thursday, January
8th as they travel to Franklin Pierce University.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
