WOODS SCORES 18 IN LOSS
PLEASTANTVILLE, NY - The Pace University men's basketball team
was defeated by the Falcons of Bentley University 83-55. Pace falls
to 6-9 on the season with a 4-6 record in the Northeast-10
Conference, while Bentley will improve to 14-4 overall with a 8-3
record in conference action. With the loss, the men fall to 4-5 in
home games this season.
Bentley jumped on Pace early as they used their hot shooting to
take a 14 point lead at 22-8 with 9:11 left in the first half.
Bentley continued to build on their lead late in the fist half as
they continued to get whatever they wanted on the offensive end to
make the score 37-18 with 3:52 left in the half. Pace went on an
8-3 run to end the half which put the Falcons lead at only 14 going
into the locker room. The Setters stayed within striking distance
thanks to the play of Ryan Woods (Staten Island, NY/St. Peters Boys) (Staten Island, NY/St.
Peters Boys) who had 11 points in the first half on 4-of-8
shooting. Pace shot 36 percent from the field in the first half,
while the Falcons shot 44 percent. Bentley also won the battle from
the perimeter in the first half as they went 7-for18 from deep,
while Pace was only 1-for-11.
Pace got as close as 13 in the second half after a layup by
Laurence McGhee (Linden, NJ/Linden) (Linden, NJ/Linden) which made the
score 43-30 with 17:48 left in the game. Bentley responded with a
back-breaking 17-5 run of their own to make the score 60-35 with
11:50 left in the game. From this point in the game Bentley caught
fire from three-point land as they shot 70 percent from
long-distance in the second half to help put the Setters away.
The Falcons were lead by their all-conference guard Jason Westrol
as he finished with 18 points, eight assists, and six rebounds.
Bentley also moved the ball very well on the offensive end as they
ended up with 23 assists on 32 made baskets.
Pace was led by Woods who finished with a team-high 18 points on
6-of-12 shooting from the field. The Setters also got a strong
inside effort from Randy Wilson (Peekskill, NY/Peekskill) (Peekskill,
NY/Peekskill) as he finished with four points, a team-high
nine rebounds, and two assists.
The men will be back on the hardwood as they host NE-10 rival
Stonehill College on Tuesday, January 20. Tip-off is scheduled for
7:30 p.m.
