RINDGE, NH- The Pace men's lacrosse team defeated the Ravens of
Franklin Pierce 14-5 in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters
improve to 7-5 overall and 4-3 in the NE-10, while Ravens drop to
2-9 and 1-6 in conference play.
The teams traded goals over most of the opening period with
James Hammel (N. Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) (North Caldwell, NJ/West Essex)
scoring the first goal and closed out the quarter, netting a man-up
score to give the Setters a 4-3 lead. Each team scored a goal in
the second quarter and Pace would take a 5-4 lead into the break.
The Ravens didn't take long to net the equalizer as Russell
Hodson tied the score at five less then three minutes into the
second half. It would be the final Raven goal as Setter netminder
Timothy Matheis (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) shut
out the Raven offense the rest of the way, while the Setters scored
nine unanswered goals to coast at a 14-5 win.
For the Setters, Ryan Gregory (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) (Bethpage,
NY/Bethpage) finished with five points (3G-2A), while
Hammel and Justin Page (Eagan, MN/Eagan) (Eagan, MN/Eagan) each
tallied four points (3G-1A). In net, Matheis recorded nine saves in
sixty minutes of action.
Pace returns to action when on Wednesday, April 23 when they
travel to Colchester, VT to take on Saint Michael's College in
Northeast-10 action scheduled for a 4:00 pm start.
