Box Score STRONG SECOND HALF LIFTS BENTLEY OVER
LACROSSE, 12-9
WALTHAM, MA - The Pace University men's lacrosse team was
outscored 7-2 in the second half, as they dropped a Northeast-10
Conference match up to the Falcons of Bentley College, 12-9. The
Setters fall to an even 3-3 on the season and 1-1 in the NE-10,
while the Falcons improve to 4-2 overall, 2-1 in conference play.
Senior Ryan Gregory (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) (Bethpage,
NY/Bethpage) and red shirt sophomore Jake Sheppard (Brunswick East, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/East Victoria)
(Brunswick East, Melbourne, Victoria,
Australia/East Victoria) paced the Setters attack
recording four points apiece, as the duo each collected three goals
and an assist in the game. Kevin Gould led the Falcons offense
scoring five goals, while Brad Tunis finished the afternoon with
three goals.
Bentley took an early 2-0 lead on goals by Gould (11:53) and
Addi Van Hatcher (11:02). Pace would answer back scoring three
unanswered goals to take a 3-2 lead, as Sheppard (7:38), sophomore
Joe Page (Eagan, MN/Eagan) (Eagan, MN/Eagan) (6:48)
and classmate Joseph Clark (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton) (Hopkinton,
MA/Hopkinton) (4:58) all notched goals. The first quarter
would end in a 3-3 tie as Gould scored his second goal of the game
with 0:01 second remaining.
The second quarter featured much of the same as both teams
looked to pull away. Pace struck first as Gregory (13:57) put Pace
back up 4-3, but Bentley would tie the game again at four minutes
later on a goal from Tunis (8:06). The Setters used another
three-goal run to try and pull away, as Sheppard (7:06), Gregory
(6:35) and Sheppard again man-up (5:38), put the Setters up 7-4.
The Falcons would head into the half down 7-5, as Jon Harding
(3:52) cut Bentley's deficit to two.
The Falcons came out of the locker room firing away as they
reeled off six unanswered goals to take an 11-7 lead. Gould led the
scoring surge netting three of the six goals, including a man-up
goal. Gregory (0:24) ended Bentley's scoring run tallying Pace's
lone goal of the third quarter.
The Setters were unable to rebound from the third quarter, as
Bentley cruised down the stretch for the 12-9 victory. The fourth
quarter featured only a pair of goals as Tunis (5:37) recorded his
hat trick for Bentley, while junior T.J. Urban (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) (Kinnelon,
NJ/Kinnelon) (5:01) netted the final goal of the day for
Pace. Urban also recorded a pair of assists, while sophomore
James Hammel (N. Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) (North Caldwell, NJ/West
Essex) finished with two assists as well and Page had one
assist, to go along with his goal.
Reigning NE-10 and ECAC Goalkeeper of the Week, junior
Timmy Matheis (Lindenhurst,
NY/Lindenhurst), finished with 17 saves in between the
pipes for Pace, while his counterpart Kris Dambach had six saves in
net.
Pace returns to action this Wednesday, April 2nd, as
the Setters will play host to regional foe Molloy College in a
non-conference match. Face-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Pace
Field on the Pleasantville campus of Pace University.
