STRONG SECOND HALF LIFTS BENTLEY OVER LACROSSE, 12-9

WALTHAM, MA - The Pace University men's lacrosse team was outscored 7-2 in the second half, as they dropped a Northeast-10 Conference match up to the Falcons of Bentley College, 12-9. The Setters fall to an even 3-3 on the season and 1-1 in the NE-10, while the Falcons improve to 4-2 overall, 2-1 in conference play.

Senior Ryan Gregory (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) and red shirt sophomore Jake Sheppard (Brunswick East, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/East Victoria) (Brunswick East, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/East Victoria) paced the Setters attack recording four points apiece, as the duo each collected three goals and an assist in the game. Kevin Gould led the Falcons offense scoring five goals, while Brad Tunis finished the afternoon with three goals.

Bentley took an early 2-0 lead on goals by Gould (11:53) and Addi Van Hatcher (11:02). Pace would answer back scoring three unanswered goals to take a 3-2 lead, as Sheppard (7:38), sophomore Joe Page (Eagan, MN/Eagan) (Eagan, MN/Eagan) (6:48) and classmate Joseph Clark (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton) (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton) (4:58) all notched goals. The first quarter would end in a 3-3 tie as Gould scored his second goal of the game with 0:01 second remaining.

The second quarter featured much of the same as both teams looked to pull away. Pace struck first as Gregory (13:57) put Pace back up 4-3, but Bentley would tie the game again at four minutes later on a goal from Tunis (8:06).  The Setters used another three-goal run to try and pull away, as Sheppard (7:06), Gregory (6:35) and Sheppard again man-up (5:38), put the Setters up 7-4. The Falcons would head into the half down 7-5, as Jon Harding (3:52) cut Bentley's deficit to two.

The Falcons came out of the locker room firing away as they reeled off six unanswered goals to take an 11-7 lead. Gould led the scoring surge netting three of the six goals, including a man-up goal. Gregory (0:24) ended Bentley's scoring run tallying Pace's lone goal of the third quarter.

The Setters were unable to rebound from the third quarter, as Bentley cruised down the stretch for the 12-9 victory. The fourth quarter featured only a pair of goals as Tunis (5:37) recorded his hat trick for Bentley, while junior T.J. Urban (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) (5:01) netted the final goal of the day for Pace. Urban also recorded a pair of assists, while sophomore James Hammel (N. Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) (North Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) finished with two assists as well and Page had one assist, to go along with his goal.

Reigning NE-10 and ECAC Goalkeeper of the Week, junior Timmy Matheis (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst), finished with 17 saves in between the pipes for Pace, while his counterpart Kris Dambach had six saves in net.

Pace returns to action this Wednesday, April 2nd, as the Setters will play host to regional foe Molloy College in a non-conference match. Face-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Pace Field on the Pleasantville campus of Pace University.
