PACE CRUISES IN CONFERENCE OPENING WIN OVER ASSUMPTION
CORBETT K'S SEVEN IN TWO-HIT OUTING

PLEASANTVILLE, NY - Dustin Corbett (Vestal, NY/Vestal) (Vestal, NY/Vestal) struck out seven in seven innings, tossing a two-hitter as the Setters opened conference play with a 7-0 win over Assumption. The Setters improve to 11-7 on the season and 1-0 in the Northeast-10, while the Greyhounds drop to 5-7 and 1-1 in conference play.

The Setters got on the board in the fourth as Jack Cawley (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) led off with an infield single and moved to second on a sacrifice. Vinny Dammann (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) drew a two-out walk and both Damman and Cawley scored on a double by Joe Cotone (Yorktown Hts., NY/Lakeland) (Yorktown Heights, NY/Lakeland). The Setters tacked on four more in the sixth as Joe Barracato (Westbury, NY/W.T. Clarke) (Westbury, NY/W.T. Clarke) got the key hit in the inning with a two-run single to cap the scoring in the inning and a 6-0 Pace lead. A sacrifice fly by Neil Ross (Cortland Manor, NY/Panas) (Cortland Manor, NY/Panas) in the seventh accounted for Pace's final run as the Setter pitching staff completed the 7-0 shutout victory to open conference play.

Cotone finished the day, going a perfect 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, while Barracato went 2-for-5 in the game. Cawley and Dammann scored a pair of runs in the game to lead the Setters.

On the hill, Corbett (2-0) allowing two hits over seven innings, striking out seven in another solid outing for the senior. Frank Luongo (West Harrison, NY/Harrison) (West Harrison, NY/West Harrison) struck out the side in the eighth in his lone inning of work, while Aaron Zrenda (Niantic, CT/Loomis Chaffee Prep) (Niantic, CT/Loomis Chaffee Prep) tossed a scoreless ninth, completing the combined shutout for Pace.

For Assumption, Jeff Barbale (Charlton, MA) pitched six innings, allowing 10 hits and six runs, while striking out one. Zachary Jacques (Jefferson, MA) and Tim Scafidi (Worcester, MA) each tossed a scoreless inning. The Greyhounds were limited to five hits as Mike Baillargeon (Worcester, MA) collected a pair of hits to lead Assumption.

The Setters return to action on Wednesday, March 26 when they will host Dominican College in a non-conference game scheduled for a 3:00 pm first pitch at Finnerty Field on Pace's Pleasantville campus. Assumption will travel to Lowell, MA on Wednesday for an NE-10 game against UMass Lowell at 3:30 pm.
