PACE EVENS RECORD AT 2-2 WITH OVERTIME WIN OVER DOMINICAN

ST. LEO, FL- The Pace men's lacrosse team needed an extra period but Justin Page (Eagan, MN/Eagan) (Eagan, MN/Eagan) netted the overtime game-winning goals as the Setters defeated the Chargers of Dominican College 9-8. The Setters even their record at 2-2 overall, while Dominican drops to 0-2 on the season. Pace opens its conference schedule against Southern New Hampshire on Saturday, March 22 at 1 pm at Pace Field on the Pleasantville campus.

The Setters got on the board first as Jake Sheppard (Brunswick East, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/East Victoria) (Brunswick East, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/Northcote) and Page put Pace up 2-0 after one quarter of play. Dominican rallied in the second quarter with three unanswered goals, including a man-down go-ahead goal with 2:53 left in the first half. Ben Volen (Mt. Airy, MD/Linganore) () tied the score at three off as assist from Joseph Clark (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton) (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton) as the teams went into the half even.

Early goals in the third quarter by James Hammel (N. Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) (North Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) and a man-up tally from Page gave the Setters a two goal lead. After trading goals, Ryan Gregory (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) scored with 10 seconds remaining in the quarter to give Pace a 7-4 lead heading into the final period.

Dominican would score two quick goals by Dan Celebre and Pat O'Shea to slice the lead to one at 7-6 with 10:50 left in the game. Page would put Pace back up by two with 9:33 left in the game, but Dominican would rally to tie the score at eight on two more O'Shea goals.

The teams would need overtime to decide this game and it was the Setters who emerged the victors as Page scored his fifth goal of the day off an assist by Volen to give the Setters the 9-8 win.

For Pace, Page led the way with his five goals, while Hammel and Clark each recorded a goal and an assist. In net, Timothy Matheis (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) played the entire game, recording 19 saves, earning the win

Pace returns to action when they host Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday, March 22 for the Setters conference opener at 1:00 pm on Pace's Pleasantville campus.
