Box Score 2 PACE SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH SAINT

SETTERS EARN A BERTH IN THE NE-10 CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT
PLEASANTVILLE, NY - In their regular season finale, the Pace
University baseball team split a Northeast-10 Conference baseball
doubleheader with the Golden Knights of The College of Saint Rose
this afternoon at Finnerty Field on the Pleasantville Campus of
Pace University. The Setters were shutout in the opener 3-0, but
came back in game two 6-3. The Setters end their regular season
with an overall record of 28-24 (18-12 in the NE-10), while the
Golden Knights end their season with a 16-29 record (13-17 in the
NE-10).
Seniors Adam Harwood (Los Angeles, CA/Brentwood) (Los Angeles,
CA/Brentwood), Angelo Fusaro (Stamford, CT/Westhill) (Stamford,
CT/Westhill), Ray Caronia (Paramus, NJ/Paramus) (Paramus,
NJ/Paramus) and Justin Kanellis (Lansing, NY/Lansing Central) (Lansing,
NY/Lansing Central) were all honored before the game as
part of Senior Day celebrations.
Fusaro (5-4) took the mound in game one, tossing seven innings
allowing three runs on four hits, while walking two and striking
out five. The Golden Knights opened the game scoring a run in the
top of the first on an RBI single by Matt Frey (Clifton Park, NY)
that scored Ryan Price (Binghamton, NY), who singled to lead off
the inning. Saint Rose added two more runs in the top of the fourth
on a two-run double off the bat of Carlos Gomez (Santo Domingo, DR)
that drove home Gary Miller (Prospect, CT) and Derek Marshall
(Malone, NY). Michael Sheehy (Pelham, NY/Pelham Memorial) (Pelham, NY/Pelham
Memorial) pitched two innings in relief, allowing just a
hit and a walk to go along with a pair of strikeouts.
Kevin Zuchorski (Cobleskill, NY) (3-1) picked up the victory for
the visiting Golden Knights going seven shutout innings, allowing
just six hits and a pair of walks, while striking out four. Chris
Cahill (Saugerties, NY) earned his fifth save of the year, tossing
two hitless innings surrendering a lone walk, while striking out
three.
The Setters opened the nightcap scoring a pair of runs in each
of the first two innings. In the bottom of the first, Jack
Cawley (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) tripled to right field and
came home on Matt Arburr's (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) (Bristol, CT/ Bristol
Eastern) RBI double. Arburr would come around to score on
an RBI single from Aaron Zrenda (Niantic, CT/Loomis Chaffee Prep) (Niantic, CT/Loomis Chaffee
Prep). Pace scored two more runs in the bottom of the
second on a pair of walks with the bases loaded.
Saint Rose cut their deficit to one scoring a run in the third
and a pair of runs in the fifth. Brad Polcare's (Saratoga Springs,
NY) sacrifice fly to right brought home Mike Pagano (New City, NY)
for the visitors first run of the game. Price's two-run double
scoring Jake Perez (North East, PA) and Pagano made the game 4-3,
but that's as close as the Golden Knights would get.
Cawley's third homerun of the season in the seventh and
Joe Barracato's (Westbury, NY/Clarke) (Westbury, NY/Clarke) RBI single
in the eighth scoring Dennis Alimonti (Jefferson Valley, NY/Lakeland) (Jefferson Valley,
NY) completed the 6-3 final.
MacKenzie King (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren Regional) (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren
Regional) (5-1) picked up the victory for the Setters
tossing three innings of relief, allowing two unearned runs on
three hits, to go along with six strikeouts. Eric Brown (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk)
(Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) earned his seventh save of the
season going three perfect innings, while fanning three.
Chris Brown (Syracuse, NY) (0-3) took the loss, lasting just 1.2
innings allowing four runs on four hits to go along with four
walks.
The Setters return to action on Wednesday, May 9th,
as Pace hosts the Falcons of Bentley College in the opening round
of the Northeast-10 Conference Baseball Tournament. Time has yet to
be determined.
