PLEASANTVILLE, NY - The #9 ranked Pace University men's lacrosse team lost a heartbreaker to the Hawks of Saint Anselm College in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up this afternoon at Pace Field on the Pleasantville campus of Pace University. The Setters end the regular season at 7-6 overall, 4-5 in the NE-10, while the Hawks end at 6-7 overall, 4-5 in conference play. Each team will continue to play, as both have qualified for the NE-10 Conference Men's Lacrosse Tournament. As the fifth seed, Saint Anselm will travel to 4th seeded Merrimack College, while 6th seeded Pace will travel to 3rd seeded Saint Michael's College. Both games are scheduled for Tuesday, May 2nd with 4:00 p.m. starts.

The Hawks jumped on the board first on an unassisted goal from Chris Murphy (Winchester, MA) at the 7:07 mark of the first period. Saint Anselm would add another goal from Matt Surette (Wakefield, MA) (1:45) to take a 2-0 lead heading into the second quarter. The Setters answered back scoring five straight goals to take a 5-4 lead. Pace's scoring surge was lead by senior Robert Cornetta (Huntington Station, NY/Half Hollow Hills West) and Ryan Gregory (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage). Cornetta scored the first two Setter goals to cut the deficit in half, while Gregory netted three straight, all on extra man opportunities, to take the lead. Cornetta was honored before the game as Pace's lone senior on Senior Day.

Saint Anselm would retake the lead in the third as Trocki (13:05) and Murphy (11:45) each tallied their second goals on the afternoon. Freshman James Hammel (North Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) (10:21) tied the game at six, before Paul Driscoll (Milton, MA) (2:58) put the Hawks back on top to close out the third.

The game continued to go back and forth as each team battled for control. Matt O'Connell (Charlestown, MA) (12:17) opened the period to put the Hawks up by two, but the Setters rallied back to tie the game at eight on goals from Gregory (8:32) and Hammel (5:08). Saint Anselm took a late lead on Mike Hooper's (Malden, MA) goal at the 1:17 mark, but Gregory's fifth goal of the afternoon with just 30 seconds remaining in the game would force overtime action.

After a scoreless first overtime, Brian Hubbert (Nashua, NH) scored the game-winning goal with 2:12 left in the second OT.
