Box Score BASEBALL FALLS TO ASSUMPTION 2-1 IN EXTRA
INNINGS
PLEASANTVILLE, NY - The Pace University baseball team lost a
Northeast-10 Conference match up to the Greyhounds of Assumption
College, 2-1, in 12 innings this afternoon at Finnerty Field on the
Pleasantville campus of Pace University. The Setters fall to 11-13,
4-1 in the NE-10, while the Greyhounds improve their overall mark
to 10-9 and 2-5 in conference play.
Assumption scored the would be game-winning run in the top of
the 12th on an RBI double by Derek Migrants that scored
Mike Baillargeon, who walked to reach base.
The Greyhounds were the first to score, putting a run up on the
board in the top of the fifth. Matthew Jose led off the inning with
a single to left field and would advance to second on a sacrifice
bunt by Brian Quaglieri. Steve Scannell followed with a single to
left, advancing Jose to third. Scannell would then steal second
before Baillargeon grounded out to third, scoring Jose. The Setters
would end any threat of a big inning getting a force out at second.
Pace later tied the game at one in the bottom of the eighth as
Andre Liscinsky (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) scored on
a sacrifice fly by Matt Rigoli (Parisppanny, NJ/Parisppanny) (Parisppany,
NJ/Parisppany). Liscinsky lead off the inning with walk,
advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ray Caronia (Paramus, NJ/Paramus)
(Paramus, NY/Paramus). Jack Cawley (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) (Bronx, NY/Iona
Prep) followed with a single to center, advancing
Liscinsky to third. The game would remain tied at one as the
Greyhounds got an inning ending groundout.
Pitching was the star of the game as neither team was able to
get their offenses going. Dan Sargent started the game for
Assumption tossing 7.1 strong innings, allowing one run on five
hits, while walking three and striking out one. Tim Dupuis provided
3.0 innings of relief, allowing four hits, while fanning one.
Andrew Quinn (3-2) picked up the victory for the Greyhounds
surrendering just one hit over 1.2 innings of work.
Starting the game for Pace was Zach Dayton (North Falmouth, MA/Falmouth) (North
Falmouth, MA/Falmouth), who went 5.2 innings giving up
just one run on six hits, walking one and striking out seven
batters. Frank Luongo (West Harrison, NY/Harrison) (West Harrison, NY/Harrison)
(0-1) took the loss despite providing 6.0 innings of solid relief,
allowing one run on two hits, while walking one and to go along
with a pair of strikeouts.
Caronia, Rigoli, Neil Ross (Cortland Manor, NY/Dominican College) (Cortland Manor, NY/Dominican
College) and Joe Barracato (Westbury, NY/Clarke) (Westbury,
NY/Clarke) all had multi-hit games for Pace.
The Setters return to action on Monday, April 2nd, as
Pace hosts the Hawks of Saint Anselm College in a Northeast-10
Conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
