Box Score LACROSSE DROPS SEASON OPENER TO SOUTHERN
NEW HAMPSHIRE
MILFORD, NH- The Pace University men's lacrosse team dropped its
2007 season opener to Southern New Hampshire University 10-9. The
Setters open the season at 0-1, and 0-1 in the NE-10, while the
Penmen kick off their season at 1-0 and 1-0 in conference play.
After allowing the Penmen to take a 1-0 after the opening
period, the Setters offense erupted, scoring four unanswered goals
in just under four minutes to take a 4-1 lead. Southern New
Hampshire chipped away, scoring three goals in the final 2:42 to
tie the game at four at the half.
The teams exchanges goals over much of the third period, until
the end when the Penmen netted back-to-back goals in the final 1:15
of the period to take am 8-7 lead into the final period.
The Setters tied the game at eight early in the fourth, on
Ryan Gregory's (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) second goal
of the afternoon with 10:56 left in the game. The score stayed
knotted until the 3:42 mark when the Penmen took the lead on a John
Delanoy goal. Delanoy struck again 1:23 later, putting the Penmen
up two with 2:19 to go in the game. The Setters cut the deficit in
half on a goal by Jake Sheppard (Brunswick East, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/East Victoria) with 19 seconds left in the game
but could get no closer as the Penmen held off the Setters in the
waning seconds of play.
For Pace, juniors Gregory and Justin Page (Eagan, MN/Eagan) (Eagan,
MN/Eagan) and freshman James Hammel (North
Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) all netted a pair of goals and
one assist.
The Setters return to action on Friday, March 9, when the travel
to Wheeling, VA to take on Wheeling University at 4:00 pm in a
non-conference match-up.
