ARBURR AND MULLEN COMBINE FOR THREE HOMERUNS

PLEASANTVILLE, NY - In their Northeast-10 Conference opener, the Pace University baseball team defeated the Owls of Southern Connecticut State University, 9-2, on Finnerty Field on the Pleasantville Campus of Pace University. The Setters improve to 7-12 on the season and 1-0 in the NE-10, while the Owls fall to 4-15 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Matt Arburr (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) and Ted Mullen (Madison, CT/Chaote Rosemary Hall) (Madison, CT/Chaote Rosemary Hall) powered Pace as the due combined for three homeruns and five RBI's. Arrburr was a perfect 4-for-4 in the game, including a pair of homeruns, to along with three RBI's and four runs scored. Angelo Fusaro (Stamford, CT/Westhill) (Stamford, CT/Westhill) (2-2) picked up the victory, tossing six solid innings allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits, while giving up a pair of walks and striking out three.

Southern Connecticut got on the board first, scoring a run in the top of the second. Nick Czekaj (Branford, CT) and Jim McLaughlin (Medway, MA) singled and walked, respectively, to lead off the inning. Both runners would then advance a base on a throwing error by Fusaro as he failed to pick-off Czekaj at second. Joe Kahlden (Norwalk, CT) followed with a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Czekaj. Fusaro would survive the inning surrendering the lone run, as his defense backed him up with an inning ending 6-3 double play.

Pace answered right back as Arburr lead off the bottom of the second with a solo homerun, his fifth of the season. The tie would not last long as Michael Diaz (Monroe, CT) hit a solo homerun of his own the following inning to put the Owls back on top.

The Setters took their first lead of the game putting three runs on the board in the fourth. Following a Jack Cawley (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) single to start the inning, Mullen hit his second homerun on the year, giving Pace its first lead. The Setters would go back-to-back as Arburr followed Mullen with his second homerun of the game and sixth of the year.

Pace added to their lead the following inning as Arburr struck again, this time with an RBI single that scored Adam Harwood (Los Angeles, CA/Brentwood), who was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Neil Ross (Cortland Manor, NY/Dominican College) (Cortland Manor, NY/Dominican College) followed with an RBI double to right center, scoring Arburr. Chris Brown (West Kingston, RI/South Kingston) continued the Setter rally with an RBI double of his own, scoring Ross. Matt Rigoli (Parisppanny, NJ/Parisppanny) (Parisppany, NJ/Parisppany), who reached base with a hit-by-pitch, would later score on a passed ball. The Setters added their final run of the game in the seventh, as Rigoli drove in Arbrurr with an RBI single to left center.

Taking the loss for Southern Connecticut was Nick Carlucci (Franklin, MA) (1-4), who surrendered seven runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings of work, while striking out four.
