SETTERS FALL TO FRANKLIN PIERCE, 2-0

PLEASANTVILLE, NY - The Pace University baseball team lost to Northeast-10 Conference foe Franklin Pierce College, 2-0, in an NE-10 match-up at Dr. Pappas Field in Rindge, NH.  Pace goes to 25-15 overall and 10-9 in the Northeast-10 while Franklin Pierce improves to 34-9 overall and 19-5 in conference play.

Pace starter Matt Reilly (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) took the loss despite looking very sharp early on.  Reilly was perfect through the first three innings and retired 14 of the first 16 batters he faced.  In the 6th, Reilly struck out the first two batters he faced before giving up a single to left field to Elliot Shea (Jaffrey, NH), who then proceeded to steal second base.  Mike Chambers (Londonderry, NH) then followed with a single through the left side, moving Shea to third base.  The Ravens would take a 1-0 lead when Shea then proceeded to steal home before Reilly retired the side.

Franklin Pierce would take a 2-0 lead in the 7th after Bryan Duplissie (East Swanzey, NH) walked to lead off the inning.  Duplissie would advance to second on a sacrifice bunt and then to third on a ground ball to the first baseman.  Kim Hart (Gorham, ME) followed with a single, scoring Duplissie to go up 2-0.

Reilly pitched his 3rd consecutive complete game of the season as he allowed both earned runs on four hits over eight innings while striking out seven.  His counterpart, Arric Mather (Danville, NH) picked up the win after holding Pace scoreless over seven innings, scattering seven hits and striking out seven.  Mike Farrell (Russell, MA) pitched the final two innings, striking out three, to pick up his 2nd save of the season.

Pace returns to action when they host the College of Saint Rose on Thursday, April 29th at 3:30 p.m. at Finnerty Field on the Pleasantville campus of Pace University.
