  PACE FALLS TO ADELPHI, 17-9

PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Pace University men's lacrosse team lost to Adelphi University, 17-9 in a non-conference game played on the Setters Pleasantville campus. The Setters finish the season 4-9 on the season, while the Panthers of Adelphi improve their record to 8-2.

Pace took an early lead as Ken Lysik (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton) (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton) netted a goal off an assist by Ryan Gregory (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage).  Adelphi answered as Wes Green scored once and Michael Gongas tallied a pair of scores to put the Panthers up 3-1 midway through the opening period. Lysik and Gregory scored back-to-back goals in less than one minute to tie the score at three. Green netted a late first period goal off a Gongas assist to regain the lead for Adelphi.

In the second period, Gregory answered with goal with an assist by Rob Cornetta (Huntington Station, NY/Half Hollow Hills W), tying the score at four. Green and Stephan Mortimer put Adelphi back ahead by two goals midway through the second quarter. Ben Volen (Mt. Airy, MD/Linganore) (Mt. Airy, MD/Linganore) cut the Panther lead to one, tallying an unassisted goal with 4:52 remaining in the first half. Green netted another goal with 2:02 left in the half. From that point in the second period until the 1:44 mark of the third period, Adelphi scored nine unanswered goals, with Green scoring seven times. Green finished the day with nine goals and three assists. Gregory broke the Panther run with a goal at the 11 second mark of the third period.

In the final period, Lysik, Cornetta and Justin Page (Eagan, MN/Eagan) (Eagan, MN/Eagan) each recorded a goal for the Setters, while Gongas scored his third goal of the day.

In net, the Setters' Tim Matheis (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) played the whole game, while saving 16 shots. For Adelphi, Brian Volpi played 60 minutes and recorded nine saves.
