Box Score FIVE RUN 4TH INNING THE DIFFERENCE AS SETTERS BEAT
HOUNDS, 7-3
Pleasantville, NY- The Pace University baseball team posted a
5-run 4th inning to help them to a 7-3 win over
Assumption College in a Northeast-10 Conference game at Finnerty
Field on the Pleasantville campus of Pace University. Pace
improves to 15-5 overall and 2-0 in the NE-10 while Assumption
drops to 3-14 overall and 0-5 in the NE-10.
Assumption scored the game's first run, and held their only lead
of the game, in the top of the 3rd inning. Scott
Scannell (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) led off the inning with a single
and then advanced to second base on a failed pickoff attempt by
Pace starter, Bryan Hallberg (River Edge, NJ/River Dell Regional) (River Edge, NH/River Dell
Regional). Tyler Vivian (Ashland, MA/Marian) then
reached on an error by Pace third baseman Matt Arburr (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern)
(Bristol, CT/ Bristol Eastern), moving Scannell to
third. Matt Cavallaro (West Haven, CT/ West Haven) then
doubled to right field, scoring Scannell. Hallberg would
bounce back to force a groundball back to the mound and then strike
out the last batter, stranding two Greyhounds.
Pace would respond in the bottom half of the inning. After
Andre Liscinsky (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) and
Chris Brown (West Kingston, RI/South Kingstown)
were retired, Brian Hollrah (Glenwood, MD/Glenely) (Glenwood, MD/Glenely)
singled to center field. JC Pullum (White Plains, NY/Valhalla) (White Plains,
NY/Valhalla) then singled to the shortstop, moving Hollrah
into scoring position at second base. Jack Cawley (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) (Bronx,
NY/Iona Prep) then doubled to left field, scoring Hollrah
and Pullum and giving Pace a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the 4th, Arburr, Mike Pahira (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel)
(Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) and Adam Harwood (Los Angeles, CA/Brentwood) (Los
Angeles, CA/Brentwood) all singled to start the
inning. Liscinsky's ground ball to third base forced Arburr
out at the plate, but left the bases loaded. After Brown
struck out, Hollrah doubled to left field, scoring Harwood and
Pahira. Pullum then followed with an RBI single to center
field, scoring Liscinsky and Cawley followed with his second
two-run double of the game, scoring Pullum and Hollrah, and giving
Pace a 7-1 lead heading into the top of the 7th.
Assumption would tack on a run in the 7th when
Scannell led off the game with a double to center field.
After Connor Ryan (Auburn, MA/Bancroft School) ground out to first,
moving Scannell to third, Vivian's ground back to second would
score Scannell, cutting the Setter lead to 7-2.
In the 9th, Scannell led off with his fourth hit of
the afternoon to left field, and then advanced to second on a
passed ball. Vivian would single to score Scannell to bring
Assumption to 7-3.
Hallberg picked up the victory to improve to 3-1 after holding
Assumption to seven hits over seven innings while striking out 10
and walking one. Michael Sheehy (Pelham, NY/Pelham Memorial) (Pelham, NY/Pelham
Memorial) pitched a scoreless 8th and
Earl Oakes (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) picked up
his 7th save of the season pitching the
9th. At the plate, Hollrah was 3-for-4 with two
RBI while Cawley was 3-for-4 with four RBI and two doubles.
Arburr also picked up three hits in the game.
For Assumption, Scannell was 4-for-4 with three runs
scored. Jeff Barbale (Charlton, MA/St. Peter-Marian) took the
loss after allowing seven runs, all earned, on 10 hits over six
innings.
Pace returns to action when they travel to Manchester, NH to
take on the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University in a
Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 1,
scheduled for a 12:00 Noon start.
